PRS Tremonti SE Versus Ovation VXT D

I find most of the people at Davis pretty friendly. A couple of the younger ones weren't very helpful though. I was looking for a specific shaped guitar, the lad just pointed to the nearest one that fit my description, and continued talking to his friend.
Still, the counter ladies+some of the other staff are very helpful, especially when it's not overcrowded. :p

Yeah the young ladies at Davis are nice. I always buy my strings there cos Davis has the best prices for strings in the country. I haven't kena a bad experience there yet, but I've a friend who had a very rude encounter when trying the basses. So on that front, I prefer to buy guitars elsewhere.

I find the old woman there to be the worst. Once, i went in to try an acoustic i was seriously considering. She came over and asked me very curtly: 'Confirm buying or not?' My reply was: 'I'd like to try it out first so i can decide.' She gave me a very 'diao' face and grudgingly took the guitar down. I was about to touch my pick to the strings when she rudely pulled my hand away and taped a piece of tissue paper below the soundhole, i believe this was to prevent pick scratches. She continued to hang around me with a sourpuss face until 5mins later she told me, again very curtly, that 'my time was up'. She then grabbed the guitar out of my hands and put it back, then pushed past me without another word. That is why i suggested going to the younger salespeople, they are generally nicer, they're courteous and friendly and know how to keep a discreet distance wheb i'm trying out an instrument.

Hahaha np at all, awwwww that's sad, you're an Emmanuel fan i take it? So i am haha. Its good that you always try before buying, lots of people buy on impulse and regret it later. I guess the next best option is to find someone who owns one and try it? That or go to Australia lol.

haha, yeah that sucks, having to go to aussie. lol. nope, i'm a qotsa fan.

Australia's a pretty nice place if you know where to go haha. But just to try a couple of guitars, yeah that sucks. And having to bring it all the way back. Might as well get a Taylor for the money you're paying to fly and buy the guitar lol.

haha i was looking at the electrics, not acoustics!

if you wanna the electric, will have to look for other source most likely.

Round 6/7 years ago, when i knew bout guitar 77 having maton dealership, i asked them bout bringing in the electric series, but unfortunately, they dont. Wonder if theres any changes since then.

I honestly hate davis. There is only the malay(i think) guy who can speak chinese whom i found friendly. I was there to look at an ESP which i saw on display outside. I asked the young female if i could try it. She told me its very expensive and asked if i had enough money to buy if i spoil it. I immediately walked out. The shop with the best customer service is SV. Let u try all day even if u not buying.

For ex guitars, i believe the shop does have the right to ask you that question. Did she ask u in a disdainful tone or something?

Yeap... Many had the same treatment from the Shop Owners or assistants. They just shoo you off with a disdainful tone, as if you are to destroy everything in the shop.....

I mean... We are all guitarist.... Why would we destroy the instrument?

I guess it is how we look, behave, etc. Perhaps we think we look and behave like guitarists with lots of experience. However, store staff might think differently. We don't know what their judging criteria is - perhaps it is a credit card.

I certainly do not look my age, and I certainly do not look like I've got the years of experience I have as a guitarist. But strangely enough, I've only had one unpleasant experience at a guitar store so far, and that happens to be a store where a lot of other people here have had worse encounters. :)

I have no idea what is their judging criteria, though it'll help to look confident and well-informed, and to talk in a professional, knowledgeable manner even with your friends accompanying you. At least, that is what I do. :) Not sure if it'll work all the time though! It still depends on the work ethics and the individual attitudes of the staff members.
