Project Strat-suggestions

Hi guys,

Just want to know your thoughts on a strat project that I have. I have a mex body with noiseless pus. Deciding to turn full circle. And thinking of getting:

2008 USA Fender Strat NITRO BODY & HARDWARE Complete - eBay (item 360040059843 end time Apr-14-08 14:46:08 PDT)

Highway 1 body, apparently its a steel block, does anyone know if this is true? Ive heard that 2006-7 they upgraded with this? Also is it a 3 piece alder body? Cant really see that clearly.

Also warmoth wenge neck, in reverse CBS style. How will this sound compared to maple does anyone know? Going to pair with the H1 body, noiseless pus. Also im sure it will look like a partscaster with a wenge neck reverse CBS Jimi style, sunburst, and Im thinking either black or white pickguard, anyone want to have a go on photoshop? hehe

Basically though, I am after similar to American strat neck, might want to go with bigger frets, I am getting true jumbo, warmoth pro construction, stainless steel frets, 1, 11/16 for the nut width, this is ok for the H1? I thought i would just keep it standard width, standard thin profile or thought about getting wizard, suggestions?

Also getting graphite nut, is it worth it? and havent decided on the tuners yet, probably wanting something locking but not too expensive, mayb planet waves Auto trim locking w/ string cutter is this worth it? yay or nay.

Btw please let me know if you think a sunburst strat, black pickguard, wenge CBS reverse neck will look like ass.

Thanks!

I think if you want a project strat, then you should build something that's the top specs you can get!

Basically, the standard things I look for in a strat are light weight body (less than 4lbs), resonant, and straight neck. The neck for me should be C shaped. (standard thin is fine) but make sure it comes with rounded edges.

Sunburst bod with wenge is fine, but what fretboard? I'd stick to a RW or ebony.

What's nice is actually a natural stain body with black pickguard and wenge neck and white pups and controls...

I think the graphtech nut is a good idea.

thanks mate, I asked warmoth and they dont do the rolled edge unfortunately, might have to ask if they can do it for extra.

I was going to get ebony fretboard, hmm yum, and to be honest I really, really like the look of the highway 1 nitro finish, wonder if the wood pieces are good though....

I know USACG does the rolled edges.

honestly, it doesn't matter whether highway 1 or highway 69. It's more about the specs of the body. If it resonates and is light, then it's good enough.

And note that the nitro finish on the highway 1 is LACQUER and not nitro paint.

Honestly, there's a KILLER 3.12lbs 2 tone sunburst body in guitar connection.

Get this:-

USACG body 2 pc alder , painted
USACG neck 1 pc maple with rounded ages, non painted, buy a bottle of tru oil or danish oil
Callaham strat kit
Pickup/pickguard assembly
Trem cover

Finito.

OR get a jap strat and mod the heck out of it.

2nd hand jap strat - $750
Callaham bridge upgrade - $120 USD + shipping
Pickup upgrade if you must -$210 to 330

I'm with Whitestrat on this - if you're doing a project guitar, make it outright slay!

Check with USACG - they seem to the slightly preferred over warmoth for the whole vintage/traditional builds.

thanks guys.

so USACG body, and USACG neck?
Should I use the noiseless fender pus in there? these pus good enough for vintage tones?

Man, lightice I love the idea of that neck, but too scared it will get warped, damn..

btw id check out the body in GC but I live in Sydney haha really have to put that in my profile.

Cheers guys, saved me from buying bs.

Sorry if i kinda hijack in this but cant help it as i'm doing my project strat too.Currently i already have a MIA Fender neck of these specs : Modern "C" Shape- Maple- 9.5" Radius (241 mm)- 70's Style Headstock- 22 JUMBO Frets- 25.5" (648 mm) Scale Length- 1.6875" (43 mm) Width at Nut.
Been going thru a lot of sites and looking out for an original re-issue or license Fender circa '57 body.I wanted an Ash body with '50s routing SSS, vintage trem and finishing to be close to Fender's Surf Green.....I have tried Musikraft, Bhefner, Warmoth, USACG and Orion Custom....
All seems to be quoting between S$800-1k incl postage.I wonder if those are the price range as i know some of our fellow softies have order body from online.Or perhaps anyone can give me some suggestion that would be good for me and those who intend to make a project strat...

@bluesmonkey :: Sorry to "hijack" the topic...and btw STRATosphere is a reliable store in eBay.Bought a lot of stuffs from them in the past and all came good and well packed.;)

Why would the 1 pc maple neck be more prone to warping? It still has a truss rod.

Anyway, take your time and think thru the specs carefully - read up a lot. Its unlikely that blueprints for a custom gets finalized in a thread... or 2. Or 4. Try reading up on TGP too - there's a boat load of people who go for the same guitar specs as you.

btw ive heard, not sure if this is true, maple is more unstable wood than say wenge, so is more prone to warpage

I've got musicmans with 1 piece maple necks that would challenge that statement.

ALL necks will warp in time. You just have to reheat it back...

Wait till you see my project... 3 humbuckers, bladed 2 point wilkinson trem, 9.5" radius, medium jumbo frets, RW with qtrsawn neck, CBS headstock, blck nitro finish and matching headstock, 3lbs body, treble bleed push pull, and coil split...

AND a Squier logo on the headstock...

What I like most is the Squier logo, but why not SX?
