tell them nicely that a guitar will keep you willingly grounded at home practicing, instead of wasting time hanging outside doing nothing like some other youths.
 
Learn your parents favourite song on guitar and play it for them. Or like find out from your dad what music he used to love and play, and go learn his favourite song, well that is if hes not ashamed of his past. :D

Its true that somehow you gotta try a way to buy their hearts. How much effort you have to put in depends on how tough are your parents. Some parents dont want their children to do the same thing they did coz probably it is not really a good experience for them or probably the group of friends brings bad influence. You gotta just somehow show them that ure in it coz of the passion for music and not for other. For myself, my parents are not supportive as well, i really cant convince them in any way that i could, and 4 my case, its really a passion, and i have to continue.

just stick to your paasion if that the case and dont let anything gets in the way of you even if its your parents, maybe now they wont be supportive but someday if they see that you are really2 keen in what you are doing, they will change their mind to support you or you can buy their hearts by playing the song that they love when they are young, nothing is impossible dude, you just have to find a way for it, they would not be that way forever im sure of it, anyway keep your passion strong aight.

maybe you can turn to rap and become a rapper. you don't need instruments to rap.

then maybe, just maybe, your parents will be so annoyed by the lack of musicality in rap that they decide to buy you an instrument so that you will make music instead of rap
