Preventing rust?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if there are any methods to prevent hardware from rusting in our humid, humid weather? Aside from the obvious oiling, which is just plain oily.

I was considering using a spray, the type of spray they use for blisters - it sets clear and forms a layer around the blister. Has anybody tried something like this?

Cheers!

there are products for guitarist to enhance the life of their strings. It's basically a plastic coating in liquid form. It'll form up as a protection shield to prevent direct contact of air to the string. So i suspect it'll work for your drum parts as well :)

I dunno man but I used WD40 on my pretty old hardware and it worked fairly well in removing. It should prevent rust as well. It's been in the industry for ages... But not sure whether it damages our expensive hardware.

Prevent rust?

Yeah, about what you mentioned, you could possibly spray a coat of clear lacquer to prevent rusting. Don't get it into the joints or threads though, it'll gum things up. Those still need to be lubricated. If you don't like oil, try using something thicker like grease instead.

A less permanent solution will be to polish/wipe your hardware with a wax-based polish. This should leave a thin layer which protects it until the next time you wipe/polish it.
