I've been using a renaissance head on my snare, and a fibreskyn as my bass reso (mainly for the looks, admittedly, but still...)
My bass has a PS3 batter with a fibreskyn reso. I used to use it completely unmuffled. It was quite nice, a good balance between boomyness and punchyness. But after a while I put a thin pillow stretching across the bottom. This improved the attack quite a lot. Since I was playing in a relatively bare room, the echoes were too much for the booming. I'm loving the sound I get out of it currently. Pretty much never use uncoated heads, there's just something about coated and fibreskynand renaissance that just feels better.
These skins in general seem to dry out the tone but warm and round it up. I really prefer this sound, maybe because I'm used to hearing calf-skin headed toms from chinese orchestra, and I love the sound that comes from it.
