the current melody makers (re-issues) do not have a mahogany body, this IMO, makes a significant diff in tone. a better acquisition will be this LP Special, just swap the pickups to a humbucker-sized p-90 set:

The current Melody Makers have a stanta maria body? Or so I heard...whatever that is, lol...

BUT that LP has caught my eye...how much is it? Is it a flat top?

the LP Special IS a flat-top unit. as usual, no price enquieries here. on sale day, look forward to pay a sub-$1K price. no hard case but Gibson bag included.

Thanks for replying to my query about the explorers, sub.

Haiz, I was really looking to buy an explorer...that was until you told me abt the tone...

Gibby's cost an arm and a leg.. 8O

the current Korina explorer is a great guitar. if you are using it for high gain stuff, a pickup swap would be ideal. the current humbuckers are good. plug it into a suitable amp, it'll do metal fine.

Thanks for clarifying even further, sub...I was intending to change the pups but when you talked abt the tone earlier, I thought it was the wood of the explorer that was the problem...

It's settled, I'll be getting myself an explorer this 1st July. :D

it's never about the wood- in fact, Korina is a sought after pedigree. the fact that there is a current, affordable incarnation, you should invest in one.

Thanks, sub...I just hope there are any left when I go there

EDIT: Btw, do you know if it comes with a case of any kind?

nope- no bags included with Epi purchase...

it's wise to get one before the sale (if it's within your means). the last sale saw buyers leaving the showroom lugging their guitars/ basses without bags- chances of your instrument getting dented on your way home are very high...

ATTENTION: pre-SALE discussions will stop on Monday, 26th June 06.

availability update will be made known by Thursday 29th June 06 (or earlier, i'll try my best...)

Put me on the list for Epi ZW bullseye LP, together with my previous LP custom.. Thx

Awaiting for stock list, good luck 8)
