Possible To Master Guitar Without Formal Lesson?

with formal lessons would really speed up yur progress and master the skill. cause u always know whats yur next step. and yea talent is also a great part to play. but remember no mater how pro a guitarist it practice practice practice is the key =)

Haha. I agree with tomdelonge182! u spent one or two hours practicing guitar and you will improve your skils. Also, try to mimic some music without looking at the tabs. You will develop your own playing technique. Haha. Jimmy page is self taught except that he took up a few lesson only. Slash is also self taught. But knowing the basics like some scales or some blues playing technique will certainly help.

yup agreed. i got no formal training and totally self taught , mimicking is the approach i adopt
i practise few songs (got to have different songs to play if not get bored very easily)
i try to make my guitar sing the same sound as close to the original played as possible. alot of tone adjustments and etc too before i start playing each song, jus to get close to the desired tone, aga aga memorized the settings too. with watever limited gear i have.

cos im self taught, im weeding out ma bad habits n such n realli trying my best to get my basic foundations sound
so
i usually start practising with gymnastics exercises hahaha... finger gymnastics, watch petrucci's rock discipline, yeah really need discipline for following it diligently, warming up etc , usualli take a good 15-20mins b4 i actualli start doing some scales and etc, and start shredding, then i'll play songs to play my guitar along to reward myself :P
thats for a regular practise session when i have time like weekends etc.

sometimes i got home late from work, i jus wanna let loose, so i jus turn on the amp plug in the guitar n i start jammin thou... too tired jus wanna go straight to the music..

recently also start studying more into theorys n stuff like classical music to gain more insight. could be useful i think. cos so far i play by feel , play by listening n play along.

i onli read tabs n use my guitarpro program when i m stuck. good program to have, i get the key as to where to start when im totally lost, and also to correct my mistakes, i tend to play my own variation too much i guess :P

Personally, I don't believe there is a "correct" or "wrong" way. It's just your own way to make the sounds that you want. If everybody followed guitar playing by the book, The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, U2, Nirvana, Radiohead, Muse would not exist.
Like using chopsticks, can put the rice in the mouth can already.
I know so many people self-taught can shred like nobody's business, can play colour like nobody's business.
