hi all! hope you guys can help me here.
i live in a hdb, my pearl rt is in my small little room. currently i'm playing muffled but thought of switching to unmuffled. however, whenever i change the skins to the loud kinds, there's alot of overtone. how to reduce these overtones? for example when i play the tom toms my snare got a ringing kinda sound.
thank you all!

There are 3 ways you can do...

Method 1:

Spend some money buying Muffling RemO Rings to muffle your drums... You can get them in Swee Lee. For Bass Drum, get Muffling Strips to get a better bass drum sound... Place more fabric if necessary... But more muffling = less dynamic range...

Method 2:
Remove your drum heads... PLace a strip of cloth and stretch it over and across the drums.. Then place back your drum heads and tune them...

Method 3:
This is the old school plaster method... Place thick tissue paper or fabric on your drum head like a small square shape.. then tape them.. It will look untidy and ugly somehow, moreover, drum sound might be poor quality somewhat...

However, I'll recommend method 1, for better quality drum sound, method 2 is okay, but won't recommend method 3...

Hope it helps..

Try moongels.. get them from nigel.. a little overpriced.. but well.. i always import my products in the thousands from the US, so hahhaa.. i get them cheaper than in Singapore.. (shipping cost reduced.. :P)

the buzzing sound u get from the snare is because your toms are tuned to the same note as the snare. same if theres a bassist at ur place and hits the same note, the snazre will buzz. i have o rings on my snare only.. my toms are tuned in such a way they wont affect the snare. of cos, there is no 100% buzz reduction. unless u take the snare wires off =D

thx for the replies guys... anyway watz moongel? how much do they cost?
i dun thk itz because of my tuning though.. both my all toms has got this effect on my snare... is it possible to say that the buzzing sound is caused by the vibrations and the fact that my room is small?

I have an RT at home too, and I have not much problems with snare (used to before I muffled though).

I've got a picture of my setup in the show-your-kits thread, and as you can see, I have towels/rags and tapes all over my toms. It looks ugly, but it gets a good sound off the toms and I have no problems with the snare ringing thing. You might want to check where you put your kit and the angle that the toms/snare are facing.
