Hey
i own a epiphone sg special and my friend suggested that i change the pickups. any idea which i should change to? look at a price range of bout >200 Play a lot of rock and punk ( Im still a kid ) :)

check out dimarzios or seymour duncan...

for a modern sound i would suggest dimarzios...

i suggest u go to dimarzio webpage and read about the humbuckers

Doesn't that mean up to infinity?

Ok most people here will tell you DUNCANSSSSSS or DIMARZIOOOOO

but here's some of the best pickups you can find.

1) Fralins
2) Kinmans
3) Tom Holmes
4) WCR

I garuntee these few will leave duncans and dimarzios in the dust.

please give a more detailed description of what tone you want. Give examples of bands/guitarists tones that you like.

Would recommend you try playing with the pickup height (closer to the strings - more gain/harmonics, further away - clearer tone) and the settings on your pedals and amp. You might find it a lot closer to what you want and not be disappointed when you have changed the pickups and they don't give you the sound you are after.

cheers,

Mark.

i would urge players who wanna hear a tonal difference from their current beloved guitars, to invest in a good amp first, before pondering on pickup issues...

yea i have a marshall mg15cdr.
I find it quite ok. Just a little fuzzy
Er mostly blink182, Led zepplin, Good Charlotte, Green Day, Ac/Dc

New pickups probably won't make a difference through that crap amp.

Anyway, since you seem fairly new, I doubt your ears can hear much difference in pickups either. Also, the bands you quoted have tremendously different guitar tones.

Go play more guitars through more and better amps, get an idea of what kinda tone you want (High gain? Big bass? Tight? Open? Lots of clarity? etc etc) then search for a pickup.

There's no "best sounding" pickup, only what you want to get from it. Unless you are looking for build quality then I've already mentioned the best in the business.

"What fruit should I buy for my fruitcake?"

"Apple!"
"Orange!"
"Banana BEEEST!!!!1111"
"NO LAR BANANANA SUXXXX BUY PEEEACHHHH"

correct answer is: "what fruitcake you want to make?"

If you wanan play classic rock with some punk stuff try out these :

Seymour Duncan 59 neck / Duncan JB Bridge (using these myself)

or

Duncan pearly gates neck / Duncan Custom Custom bridge

heard that this combi also quite good bt personall haven heard it yet.

hope that helps, the EMGs are more suited to metal imo and for classic rock stuff the invader combi would be a bit too much bt for punk its good.

u might want to consider these two SD matched sets.

"
- Hot Rodded Humbucker™ Set – matches an SH-2n Jazz Model for the neck position with and an SH-4 JB Model for the bridge position. This is Seymour’s favorite humbucker set and is widely used for everything from aggressive blues-rock to metal.
- Distortion Mayhem™ Set – includes a duo of SH-6 Duncan Distortion humbuckers for the neck and bridge positions. This is an aggressive youth-oriented set, which was designed for the heaviest punk, metal, and hardcore guitar tones.
