Pickups

Hi just want to find out if any pros can offer me layman's explaination to the different pickups and what they offer.

Basically, im using Epi Les paul, default pickup doesnt seem to be sensitive enough, esp to do tapping with high sustain. (or is it?)

Was introduced to TONE RIDER by guitar connection but couldnt find any eg of TONE RIDER online.

Seymour Duncan seems to be the popular choice, but what kind of pickups do i need? High output low output? humbucker single coil? etc etc

bro pickups are the last thing you wanna change in your arsenal.get your guitar setup and tone right to get that aforementioned sustain you want.

do remember to take a picture of your guitar before you send them to the shops to upgrade your pickups. just in case they cause a ding somewhere.

dimarizo ftw

What music do you intend to play though?
You said you just acquired a new amp and effects..
What did you buy?
There's no point upgrading from a small Samick amp to a Marshall MG15..
Is the pedal you bought really suitable? You can't expect a TS to produce anything close to medium/high gain..

And most importantly, what do you want off your pickups? (good cleans, great driven sound, more mids, etc.)

Pickups are the FIRST thing you will want to change in your rig.

Stock pickups on low to mid ranged guitars are utter rubbish, lack of clarity and often have a tasteless voicing. I have yet to find any that are good.

Epi stock pickups are terribly muddy. Go with high output pickups from either SD or Dimarzio for a start.

Really? I find that amps and effects are much more important, then comes the pickups..
No point changing to EMG actives if you're playing through an Epi Valve Jr., and all you have is a TS-9 for drive eh?
And Epi stock pickups need not be muddy; it depends on the model of guitar used.. I've encountered muddy Gibbies before, and excellent Epis as well..
But generally, some guitars do truly need a pickup swap (eg. most Ibanez RGs, most Epis)..
Pickup swaps should generally be used when the pickups are too extreme for your taste.. (too clean with bad drive, or excellent drive with bad cleans)

hmm, im using a korg tonalworks AXG1500 multieffects.. im not using my amp anymore.. but i plus a speaker into the stereo output from my board..

what about the tone rider or tonal rider( they are pickups)... anyone heard before?

Perhaps you might wanna explain what kind of music you play or bands you are trying to play: Metal, more hard rock not amounting to metal, blues etc? From there we can understand your needs and what to recommend.
