i want to change the pickups on my epi les paul special 2..which are the cheapest and best to buy? btw this guitar has double humbuckers..is there a place i can go to help me replace?

there isn't a best to buy for a pickup.. like in the thread i have posted, you need to give what wood is your guitar, what tone are u looking for.

for

you can buy from Davis and ask Davis to replace them for you, or you buy from somewhere then change the pickup at Beez or standard value.

high output? X2n for the brutal win!
low output? join me and my army of pafs

still you must tell us what you are looking for, or try the manufacturer's websites

A bit confusing. A 2001 USA model has mahogany/rosewood neck, alder/maple body. While a Japan made is solid ebony body. Which make is yours?

Anyway, you didn't ask for a specific tone that you want, unlike Teleplayer. You just asked who and where. Beez and Mike are the standard names to look for when it comes to guitar tech. As for pickups, if you want cheap and good, get Tesla pickups. Dimarzios and Seymour Duncans are probably a small step higher in terms of price and performance.

as the legendary shredcow once said...

You're right that lower output pickups can handle high gain better - better clarity, "sweeter" tone, less harshness, more natural feel, etc. More "controlled" as you say.

On the other hand, with higher output stuff - you get compression so suddenly legato feels easier to do. Suddenly pinch harmonics are a breeze. Suddenly picking becomes more effortless. The tone is crushing, saturated and just screams.

Looking at what I just said - either attributes can come off the wrong way too. Double edged sword.

u cant say better cos both are meant for different playing styles. malmsteen uses a low output pickup, so u gonna say he's using a lousy pickup?

hahah yeah i think so .
So are mostly normal guitars uses stock pickups unless they are like modded with SD/DiMarzio/EMGs those kind ?

Dun understand what you mean by "normal" guitar. Depends on which make/ model of guitar you are looking at. Ibanez can come with Duncans/ Dimarzios, Edwards come with Duncans and so on.

Ermm just normal guitars , like normal squier or fenders , which come with stock pickups and not those modded ones .

Guitar brands like fender, gibson, Dean, Ibanez have their own stock pickups and some of their guitars are equipped with DiMarzios, Seymour duncan or EMG. Well, seymour duncans n dimarzios and related pickups brand, they are not modded, they are replacement pickups for people to change to have the kind of sound they want.

distortedbassist: if you play blues, or jazz or very clean stuff, high outputs to you, will not be good. On the other hand, to those people who play high gains stufffs, high output pickups are more preferred. Vice versa.

Cool , i play more to rock/metal and those high gains and stuff . So to get a better sound, i can change to high output pickups rite?

Can recommend me a good cheap high output pickups?or low output pickups that is still playable and good for rock/metal ?

anyway change in pickups will have minimum effect if you're playing through some low end amps. changing pickups should always be the last alternative to achieve a sound you want
