Pickups for my epi les paul standard

Hey guys, I've got an epiphone les paul standard and currently have a mighty mite motherbucker in the bridge. Its a very gainy pickup but the problem is that it gets too muddy. I've been hearing good things about seymour duncan jbs but how will they do in an epi les paul standard?

I mostly play with medium to high gain. eg. rise against, metallica, iron maiden and sometimes i tune down to c. I just want nice clear crushing gain......

i have utmost respect for Duncan's JB but i like the Pearly Gates/ Custom Custom in a Les Paul. these models have a suitable midrange for this kinda guitar, one which is inherently bass inclined.

Your is not standard plus?

Anyway, since you like heavy sound why not try Dimazio Humbuckers...Maybe u like it?

any pickup with high output will be suitable.

however, there are medium/ low output pickups that'll do the job as well.

try adjusting your current PU :D
Bring up PU on High E and lower on the low E ...tweak to taste.
This will will give a better balance and brightness to your overall tone.

I suggest this

Most excellent pups. I use the Viper and Helix. Everyone who has tried my Viper has nothing but praise for it, the only thing keeping them from buying it is cost or a matter of taste.

The JB wont have the tight bass to handle the downtunings you use...

The Custom Custom (SH-11) (CC) also wont be too suitable as it has a large amount of low mids.. And bass? Pretty flabby. Not for your musical style..

I would still have a PG in the neck.. and a Custom (SH-5) in the bridge..

Get Bill Lawrence L500 XL series.

Crushing high gain, extreme clarity.

You'll need extreme patience and crushing determination to order. Beware of fakes!

For Iron Maiden, metallica and downtuning, get the Bare Knuckle nailbomb, miracle man or War pig humbuckers!!!!!!!!!!!! You've been warned!

I have yet to hear a Epi, including those very expensive MIJ Elites that sound remotely like a LP STD. A good LP Studio has more "bass inclined" tone than a Epi.

Lower your pickups and save money for LP Studio or get a ToneZone if your not likely to play thru amp modeller.

it depends- some Epis are LP-like, some are totally removed & sounds nothing like one. but people still buy them...

ppl buy whatever they can afford that gives them the look and feel of owning a real Gibson LP. If you had $4k to spend, would you ever bother checking out the Epi rack???

Thats true, but there are other choices.
Try looking for other LP like tokai, burny and so on
Which i think is better than epi?

yes, people buy them more for looks, sadly.

if i have $4K i will still check out the Epis because the Korina offerings/ Casino/ Boneyard Les Pauls are good guitars in their own right.

Boss, my friend wants to get an Epi Les Paul. Tell me whats a good model to look at. Serious... I asked him to check out the PRS SE Singlecut but somehow it might still be the Epi.

Trust me, get a bare knuckle for your heavy stuffs. It works!!! You'll want to thank me for recommending you. I used to diss those pickups, but now I'm a firm believer in it. 8)
