Pickup help?

hey guys, i'm thinking of changing the pups on my epi lp custom and i've got a setup in mind, custom custom bridge and pearly gates neck, but since one is high output and one is moderate, would there be a volume drop when i switch between neck and bridge? i've had friends who've had this prob and ended up using all high output pups. help?

The pickup height can be adjusted to compensate but generally speaking, it makes more sense to use pickups that:

1) Compliement (whatever the term means to you) each other
2) Balance better in terms of output

You should worry more then the output difference is vast, e.g. Dimarzio X2N with Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell. That would be an issue... since the height compensation would become a serious compromise in getting each pup's optimum height.

I know nuts about SD pups though but the above is a general generalisation.

generally speaking, medium output neck and high output bridge actually complement each other well.

Shouldn't be an issue.

Look at Vai's Evo set and Breed set. Look at Satriani's PAF Joe / Mo Joe set. Etc etc

Note, your personal preferences/tastes will come into the picture...

So what I mentioned is really general stuff.

You'll have to figure out what you want in due time... mix and match.

I mean, some dudes like 2 of the exact same pups in neck & bridge (Paul Gilbert with the Tonezones & PAF Pros) while there are people who enjoy lower output neck pups with high output stuff...

YMMV!!!!!!!!
