Pickup choice once again.

Hi guys, i was wondering what pick ups i should put into a Ibanez RGR321EX or a RG321MH. I was thinking Paf Pro in the neck and D sonic in the bridge,or maybe a air norton in the neck and a tone zone or super distortion in the bridge.Any comments? I'm aiming for a tight metal tone like like Lamb of God and Kill switch engage but i also want versatility and to be able to switch to nice cleans and stuff...thanks.

If you're looking for LOG's "palaces" tone, try the duncan sh-5 custom. It had it installed on my burny LP and it pumps up loads of mids... BREWWTAAALLL!!!

D-Sonic's a good choice, especially if you will use drop tuning or heavier strings (see Dimarzio.com for D-Sonic description)

A PAF Pro in neck gives a nicer clean tone than the Air Norton...

The AN would be thicker, warmer - can you imagine strumming that? Compared to the slightly thinner, but clearer, brighter cleans of the PAF Pro.

But if you like warm - rolll down the tone contorl on your guitar.

That said - the AN isn't the end-all neck pup. Too many in favour of it... and few comparisons offering an alternate Point of View. Its becoming a one-sided slant.

I used the Air Norton before, and I had coil split available - that made it usable for rhythm cleans.

yea, thats what i thought as well, im afraid the air norton will be too muddy, but i like warm sounds, but i also want to be able to switch to clear sounds as well.... like u said , with the paf pro , juz gota roll down the tone knob...

I don't htink of the AN as... muddy. I think its a clear but warm and full sounding pickup. Full sounding as in... its not honky with the mids but the mids are filled up.

For an aftermarket pup to be muddy - I'd suspect setup of either guitars or efx/amps before anything.
