hi! i have a problem with my picks wearing down. after 2 or 3 weeks of playing, the side gets worn down so it doesn't have the same sound or punch as when i first bought it. i'm using the pickboy jazz pick 1.5mm. i was thinking that maybe its my pick got problem, that's why wear down so fast. can anyone recommend a pick that doesn't wear down so fast? help greatly appreciated thanks

You must have played fast riffs, scratching, pick harmonics with it, thats y it wears so fast.

Use metal pick or a coin like Brian May.

haha.......later your coins all start wearing out!

well if ya really like the pick you're using bro then you just gota keep getting new ones.

maybe your technic is wrong?
maybe you're scraping the strings..
try to guitar it in a certain angle

Someone here should leave their fingernails longer than cut it out and become a pick.. I don't think anyone has done that before..

Haha it will be quite painful.

Ironically I use nylon picks and although they get black and bent I just use the other side. But I'm gonna receive my V-pick soon so it might turn out way better.

actually i do know of someone who plays with finger nails
and shred like steve vai.

his 5 fingers on his right hand have long nails
he seals them with a layer of nail polish i think to prevent breakage
and he just plays with all 5 fingers

but his left hand has short nails

I have the same problem, consistent replacement, i get on average 1 pick a week. Its not really about the punch for me because once the pick edge wears out unevenly I have to change as upstrokes and downstrokes start feeling different.

the music i play necessitates pick replacement very often (if i play every day: 3 days = 1 pick). in any case, pick wear is expected, do try a different pick material but keep to your thickness preference for familiarity.

hmmm...leecs you mentioned metal pick. i think i remember reading somewhere that alex laiho uses metal pick? any idea where to get? haven't seen before.

i've stopped using metals picks due to the clanking noise, in lieu, thick picks work just as well.

teckpick's available at Davis, if memory serves me right, it's $3

only knew about paper shredder.but pick shredder?fender picks do me good.i play metal and do lots of harmonics and slides on the pick.the pick has last me for a long while now.

i use pickboy jazz picks too. the one i find most comfort with. but mine dont wear out that fast....

sub: imo, one major gripe about the stubby 3.0mm is that as the middle curves inward, that part gets oily very easily n it's also very hard to clean..

before i embrace Stubby picks, the above are some of the picks i used; note how worn out the tips are. the least resistant (for me) is the Peavey (top row, first from left). the Ernie Ball/ Fender picks are all HEAVY versions, less the D'Andrea (.71mm, given to me by Beez when he was still with Yamaha).
