greetings friends

how many of us here prefer locking tuners? from the ones available in the market (Sperzel/ Gotoh/ Grover/ etc) which brand name do you prefer?

i like what Sperzel has to offer but the locking mechanism at the rear makes it unsightly (that bulk!)

I prefere Schallers... Very smooth action. The Sperzels you listed aren't as smooth, from what I have. But since you didn't list the Schallers, I voted Sperzels...

But my gripe about the tuners isn't the bulk... It's the extra weight... that's why I'd change the pegs to pearloids or ebony to lighten the weight...

ok noted- you can re-vote now... 8-)

the Sperzels aren't that smooth for sure but the simplicity + effectiveness get my thumbs up. i'm currently trying GOTOH's Magnum Locks in one of my Les Pauls...

Can't re-vote lei... it says I voted liaoz... heheheh...

Anyways the Sperzels are easy, but that locking circle is actually painful to unlock. It's quite sharp. The ones on my AT300 are quite painful.

I wonder how the planet wave ones are...

Hipshot has new locking tuners.

They look good and are apparently very reliable. Enough for Soloway guitars to use them.

Looks lighter than the schallers too.

If not for the unconventional pegs, they actually look quite nice... And better still, the gear is exposed, so you can lubricate easily...

Can purchase different pegs from hipshot. Additional costs but hey, looks = tone!

Here's a pic of some TGPer's guitar - *NOTE, the non-locking version. Imagine a thumbwheel below for the locking version*

18:1 ratio to boot.

I've read that the Stienbergers have issues holding the string securely? Some users apply solder to ensure the strings don't slip or something.

I think those Steinbergers must be hard to wind... your thumb would probably fall off if they didn't get the ratio right...

I'm currently using the Korean oem Wilkinsons. But those locking mechanism's the manual double loop thing. Ratio's only 16:1 though, but I think its working well for the price.

Would like to try the Gotoh staggered Magnums some time soon
