Paiste

Yep, true. Pay a bomb price once and the equipment mite last u a lifetime. Pay bit by bit for a half-ass item and u mite end up payin more thruout the course of your musical path. And by the way, Im tinkin of changing the heads on my new snare soon, so whoever wans a new DW Remo Ambassador coated heads and resonant heads for $10 each, do let me noe.

i tried the pst's already. i think my old 302's sound better than the pst 3's as for the 5's. i love the hats. but the crash and ride not up to my standard.

im gonna try out the istanbuls soon. hope they dont dissapoint me.

dont worry they wont be disappointing. after all i realised for 660/set, it's a really great deal. the cymbals sound great afterall. (in the case of samatyas)

DR is closed on Sundays and PH. Nigel will be busy running around these few days due to good business... 8) better call before going down...

seriously, if budget does matter.
The 101's aren't that bad.
To me, if you're getting an entry level kit.
(like the older model carlos that ranking sold)
Paiste 101's are okay. They're really budget.
Are the pst 3's really that much better that the 101's?
They're both brass right?
IMO if i get abit over budget, changing everything to a 201/pst 5 would be best. thats cos i'm still a student...
But i'm sure that one day i'll be looking at the sigs.
Btw are the 2002's good?

Are the 2002 good? Ask Ian Paice, ask Nick Mason, ask Alex Van Halen, ask Tommy Aldridge. Hell, wake up John Bonham even and ask him if they are any good, if not, consult his son Jason. And it depends on wat kinda genre u are playin. From the list, it can b said tat all of them are rock drummers, in which the 2002 works best. And yea bro, look at the sig, in fact look at it now and not someday. :P

Asking if Paiste 2002 is any good is like comparing a BMW 7 series to a bicycle.

One of the most widely used cymbal lines for rock artists. from Van Halen to Led Zeppelin. Wat more can one ask.

And stay away from those Paiste 101 or 201 series IF U POSSIBLY CAN!!

For beginners looking to invest in cymbals, I would suggest looking into these models/brands:

Paiste: Alphas, 2002s, Rudes. Signatures, Sound reflector Or the ultimate; Dark Energy series.

Sabian: AA, AAX (this series rocks!!), HHX or Hand Hammered. Also if $$$ is not an issue, u cld try and check out the Signature series.

Zildjian: Zildjian A series, A Customs, K series, K custom series OR their top effects line Oriental series (Oriental china , oriental splash, Crash of doom, etc etc)

Hope that I've somehow enlightened your queries.

Cheers!

but if cost really matters?
The 302's are okay right? I'm looking for some 402, but i can't seem to find anymore.
I've heard that their better than the 101-201 series.
Cost wise, they aren't that costly too.
But seriously, the 201's are okay, it gives enough to cut through my usual band practs. and they're reasonably priced. I was targeting the Pst 5's. but still after the 10% off at ranking. its still abit pricey...

Hi-hats wise - whats the diff between e.g. rock hats and medium hats

Volume, i should think?

im using paiste soundformuals soundedge. they are supposedly loud and all. but i like to use them for thier super distinct chick when played with whips.

can do groovy rock or even RnB

Cymbals are measured in the following;

Paper thin, extra thin, Thin, medium . heavy and extra heavy.

The rock hats (for any models are generally categorised in the Heavy / Extra Heavy category)

Thicker cymbals gives out higher pitch and therefore more volume which suits their title (rock hats).

shred5,
you are so true abt paiste 101, 201. Ive played them both and they simply sounds awful. IMO, Solar or B8 sounds wayy much better than them.

yeah man. those entry are lousy. i feel that the 302s are good.. for entry level. i used to own them.. sound is bright.. good for home practice.. but it would be much better if you can grab the pst5 series

so the 302's are good. i've got one with me for around 1 year already, in comparison to the 201, i think the 201 is better...
Anyone knows where to find the 402?

Well, its about the sound u wan, and the kinda drummer ur. When ur at the highest level, eg Signatures, Traditionals, New Signature Dark Energy, there's no ultimate cymbals. I switch from Dark Energy Hats to Signature Sound Edge cos it relates more to my playin and somehow i regretted sellin away my Dark Energy and will be gettin it again, cos at certain times, tats the kinda sound tat i wan. So ya, at the highest end, its all about preferences and the kinda sound ur after.
