PAF PRO - neck or bridge?

I see alot of reviews saying this is a great neck pickup, yet a lot of artists (Satriani, Sambora, PGM, etc) use this in the bridge.

I'm planning to buy one and not sure where to place it and what to pair it with.
I know I can just try and see/hear for myself. But just want to get your thoughts guys.

Would you put a PAF PRO at the neck or at the bridge, and why?

I think the PAF Pro is a brilliant pickup for both bridge and neck positions. For about 10 years my main guitar had PAF Pros both in the neck and bridge. What you get is a very responsive, punchy and most importantly not overly harsh and aggressive pickup.

To me the pickups have a very vocal voicing, but at the same time sound really great and balanced.

Right now my main guitar which is a custom Gene Baker comes stock with believe it or not - Dimarzio Virtual Vintage PAFs! Which really goes to show you don't need boutique to sound great.

My advice is to check out guitars similar to your's (body wood, neck, fretboard, bridge etc) with different pickups to have a taste of tones first.

You might also want to check out Duncans too! They are really good as well.

Good luck!

mine's in the neck! you'll can really play fast and get dirty lead tones not to mention having a good clean tone too. well if you have a bridge pickup in mind that you really like and does the job well, and you need it for heavy riffs or that bite then stick to a paf pro neck.If you're more of a soloist like the aforementioned players and plays more notes than chords then you could try the bridge? again i think its more of a personal preference. well, good luck anyway!:D

If you're playing anything other than Metal, they're great in both positions.
Not that you can't really play Metal with them.
It's just that they lack punch for the heavier stuff.
But I really like the transparency of its sound.
I'd prefer a hotter bridge pickup though.
The Super Distortion sounds really good on my LTD (bridge position).
