opinions on lace sensor plus?

hi softies

i'm seriously considering upgrading my mim strat's pickups to lace sensors, i.e. blue lace in the neck, silver in mid, red in bridge.

i'm a big fan of billy corgan's tone, which is why i'm interested in this particular pickup config.

but will it be possible for me to actually test out the pickups with my guitar before i decide to do the upgrade? sorry i've never had any modifications done to my guitars so i'm new at this. this is the most pressing issue because if i don't get to hear the pickups i can't decide if i like them.

i did read on guitargeek that lace sensors can be 'sterile'. anybody like to corroborate or dispute this? is the extra sustain and the reduced noise worth the price? apparently it's $240 at standard value for all 3 pus.

the pickups are really hot but do they sound anything like humbuckers? or are they sort of like...loud single coils that don't hum?

Been considering replacing the stock PUs on my SA160 to Lace Sensors.

Wonder how much a H-S-S set will cost. (Dually humbucker + 2 Lace Sensor golds)

If you're not necessarily after the "Texas Tone", Lace Sensors are very good pickups, and sound equally fantastic with effects. However, their clean tone, IMO do not compare to conventional passive Alnico 2 pickups. Completely different vibe from normal pickups.
