Whoa. I thought this thread was dead.

Okay first up, thanks so so much for those who gave their opinion, be it good or bad. Any critique's good. Most of the time.

Here's a little secret: 95% of the time I play my originals live, I don't do them well. Vocally, and guitar-wise as well. It's a confidence thing. And this was one of the 95%, as evident. Haha! Guess I gotta work on that.

And ah, all the talk about singing style... I don't know. Personally I appreciate power vocalists, I know how hard it is to achieve that sort of standard... but I don't dig them. I'd choose the charisma and varying performances of people like Jason Mraz over the perfect-pitch-sounds-just-like-studio-recording acts of legendary ladies mentioned by cbr400rrr anytime.

And cbr400rrr, if you haven't seen Mraz live, I really really suggest you do. (I'm currently in a Mraz phase)

I'm more of a writer than a singer. I'm more of an emotion-oriented writer than a technical one. Give me good lyrics and a good buildup, and I'd love it.

The song Turbulence is a hard one to perform for me - some may have heard my 'first draft' of it, the verses were very cringe-inducing. I'd thought writing it verses low, chorus high and screamy and stuff would help with the emotional buildup, but I couldn't pull that one off. So verses became higher , and I'm still figuring a way to make it sound better with just an acoustic guitar and a voice. Both of which are mine, which limits it even more -_-. I've added strings to the first track though, and I think that helped alot. Can't do that live though, so still working on it.

And uh, I'm definitely not using shortcuts to sing. I know I'm not the best singer in the world... but I don't use shortcuts. I just try and write better.

And to James: Hahaha I'd love to have a good band backing me a la Shirlyn Tan, but I gotta get more experience first! And time and all. Maybe after my A's. Hmm. And music-wise, I'm currently not looking at doing anything big. Maybe an EP next year, get better gigs, play in a good band. Yep.

And thanks hadi for putting the link for Lucy. Hahaha. BUT ah here's a disclaimer: It was quite anyhow-ly done, did my guitar parts in only a couple of takes. So can still hear errors in them... so don't butcher me about it okay. They're the right-panned ones. Yea.

(waves to ling and claire)

wah amanda.. doing EP huh... I will be looking forward to that....Also,maybe you can ask some of your friend who have a band to feature you in one of their songs to sing... Just a rough suggestion
