OM: Nick Matthew - Purple Rain

hey nick, I like ur playing...lots of emotions in there......not sure if it's my laptop running out of battery, hear a little bending pitch out and wrong notes.....maybe it's my laptop prob, but that aside, overall u really enjoy and grasp the song well

Dunno also. Wahahaha... Damn terok to bend. A lot of bends in this song. Wahahaha... Must be one of the higher bends that ran a slight pitch off... Finger pain after recording and re-recording so many times.

BUT! Thank you so much for your very kind comments. Glad you liked it. :D

Well played but not close to the 'indentity' and 'soul' of the song. Doing covers isn't easy especially with sucha song that has a lot of nuances within it. Even the last couple of minutes had a lot of stuff going on.

The start was supposed to be cool/calm - an apology from the singer/songwriter. Then it built-up and it was smooth sailing. Then there was the great solo - almost orgasmic. And then a hush followed by a crescendo/weird orchestral stuff/guitars/drums/piano - all going at it at the same time. Perhaps I expected too much. It's truly a gargantuan song - well sung (by a non-singer I may add), but superbly written and arranged. It will always be a pop-rock classic.

Dude, you had a mountain to climb. Apologies for my earlier input.

Cheers

That was harsh.. I thought he did justice to the song

True perhaps cos' it's subjective. I still say that he plays well but he didn't do the song justice. And what bites me is that there is no respect shown to the songwriter. That to me is something I cannot understand - it is beyond harsh.

Cheers

i think thats pretty harsh RoRk.. relax man chill out.. we're here to share ideas and alot of other stuff as a well rather small singapore music community..

On the other hand, if what RoRk says is true about the playing...

Well, we all know, down here, the good comments flow like water... few actually bother to give real comments.

JSUK, my fave Purple Horniness recorded da song in a hangar and without bass.

Yes, take that, bro RR bro... hurhurhur~

I believe that Prince recorded a small number of songs without bass. Definitely one of the better songwriters of our generation - too bad he sucks at singing live.

In the words of Steven Wright -
"No! You can't have everything! Where would you put it!"
