OM: faye wong turbochickenised

And mostly eq. That's about all anything can be done on a mix. I noticed the original mix was a bit too pristine, so some smearing using reverb and compression, and a notch to take down the resultant resonance on the cymbals.I especially like the drumming on this.

wow... Veganblu!!! you did magic to the thing man!!!

Great pair of ears you've got! haha!

but one question, the vocals sounds very live. how to get rid of that character ? I've never been able to figure it out. you know how ?

To get rid of the live sound? Like turbochicken says the original is probably fairly ok dry. I didn't quite dig the reverb on the vocals because it brings out the space between the other instruments in the mix.Usually to get rid of space i'll try to compress the vocals during the mixing stage, but that can brittle it up and cause sibilance later when you add in other reverb. So the only other way with a mix is to smear the frequencies with eq/compression/reverb/exciters. There's actually a lot of graininess, but that's because of the mp3->24bitwav->mp3 conversion.

hey

Sounds nice, is it the original song or urs?? I mean, did u sing this or did u edit it? Well anyway it sounds gooood

when you say compress on the mixing stage you mean compress everything or just the vocal tracks

Compress the vocals only. If you really need to, chop the reverbs, you can manually trim off and apply envelopes at the end of each phrase. Or maybe a noisegate that cuts in at the end of a phrase, but haven't tried that one yet. But really should just get it as dry as possible.

hey sofyan,

it's a song by faye wong, originally a poignant and slightly dreamy ballad.

i did a rearrangement of it.

and thanks. glad you liked it.
