Official "The Darkness" Thread (come on in!)

Hmm.

Just want to start off a thread which pays some tribute to my favourite 'modern' band.

When I was small, my dad would play Queen stuff on the stereo and I fell in love with Queen. But by the time I was old enough to buy my own CDs, Queen were essentially defunct, and I was hoping for a band which would come along and revive that old vibe which Queen had.

Then along came The Darkness with their raw heavy sound and Justin Hawkins' soaring vocals and I was instantly riveted.

Favourite Darkness song: Black Shuck

maybe any of their fans here could also share how you came to know about the Darkness and what you love about them :)

Great bro, glad for a Darkness thread to pop up. My favourite modern band.

To me, The Darkness is ACDC meets Queen, and their first album, Permission to Land was very very good. Great solos, punchy riffs, and also nice slower songs to emo to. :x

Sadly their newest cd had tons of keyboards, a different mixing, and Justin's voice lacked the edge that was there. Sounded like a Queen-wannabe record. But of course failed quite miserably. No memorable songs, no good solos, and a lot of the comedy that The Darkness has is gone.

Favourite songs (too many to name. all from the first album)

1. Love on The Rocks With No Ice
2. Friday Night
3. Holding My Own
4. Love Is Only A Feeling
5. Givin’ Up

Sadly Justin (who i felt was a main part of the band) has left. A huge stepdown for a really great and underrated band who brings me music i enjoy amidst the very different kind of music we have today.

Hmm.

I too, found the 2nd album a bit of a let-down because they somehow lost that raw edge. But bearing in mind that those songs from the first album were pretty much honed from years of playing clubs and pubs and bars, it's no wonder that they did not have enough time to come up with riffs which rocked hard enough and had to compensate with keyboards and sitar in 'One Way Ticket To Hell'.

Then again, I somehow have this hope that Justin will come back. He's kicked his alcoholism and drug issues and I think he won't let his own brother down.

In the meantime, can you imagine that the bassist will be taking over vocal duties??? That essentially makes The Darkness a power trio now innit?

Well, they might do the whole "Rock Star: The Darkness" thing eh?

Hurhurhur... I <3 The Darkness!!! I believe in a thing called love!!!

OMG!!! finally! The Darkness thread!!

honestly, one of the best rock n' roll band of this time.

such a letdown that Justin had to quit and WTH?! the new bassist taking over vocals?! damn thats a VERY big shoe to fill..oh yar they changed their bassist Frankie Poullain (sp)...to some botak man...i still like Frank's style..damn old school.

a good band...a quick end :(:(

Favourite song:
Get Your Hands Off My Woman
Growing On Me

sorry to intrude too...
Wolfmother is great band :D
any old school rock lovers should check them out!

The Darkness , I think one of the better modern bands around.

ya but it's quite sad they had to end this so soon

"I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVEEEEEEEE OOOO, HOOOOOOO!!!! GUITAR!"

Aye! That was the first The Darkness song my band jammed together and it was FUN! In fact, The Darkness has some other very fun songs to play along with - Growing on Me, KNOCKERS, One Way Ticket (to hell and back), Love is only a Feeling, Christmas Time etc etc.

I loved this band! But too bad so many of them are gone now.

Hmm.

Any local bands cover their songs? I know it's plenty tough to do their stuff.. so far I've only been able to (barely) sing and play 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love'... and I've yet to attempt the last solo :?

Need shredder / tapper for this kind of job.

I actually bought the first album, but I cannot remember where I got to know about them.

But I do like the Hawkins brothers, the Darkness is not really the same without him, imho.

the darkness rocks my socks off

ok this is how i really fell in love with the darkness.i first heard growing on me on 98.7fm i think.it was when i was in primary 4 that was in year 2000 i think.it played in my head for a while.then in sec 1 i rediscovered the darkness. :D it totally changed my music taste.from papa roach and linkin park stuff i switched to glam rock.it totally opened me up.

well my favourite song from the darkness is i believe...,growing on me,love on the rocks with no ice,one way ticket,is it just me,dinner lady arms and to me 1 of the best ballads this day seemed like a good idea at the time.

to me the darkness is the best band of a crappy time :D they trully bring true rock n roll back to life unlike those bands who scream and gore and call themselves rock when we cant even understand what they are singing (just my opinions) so dont flame me for that  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzKmk28hLc4 my tribute for darkness after justin hawkins left.

anyone want to form a darkness tribute with me?their songs are nice to play.

the solos aren't shredder stuff...they're pretty much rock n' roll stuff...but yeah the tappings are a bitch

Love is only a feeeling.........anyway........sisgh,poor Justin is out of the band, who will now replicate his falsettos?Hmm........someone call King Diamond!

EH so i still haven't found the song that they claimed to have 150 different guitar layerings. I know Love is Only a Feeling had 15. Which is the other one???

Hmm.

So anyone else wants to join a Darkness tribute band?

preferably bass and drums though :?

well, my band has covered a few of their songs. sounded pretty ok i guess. but definitely lacking in the vocals part. anybody who can pull of justin's falsettos should come jam with us!

baker!

what a coincidence!

My band covered a few the darkness songs too!

And we're lacking in the vocals part!

-gasp-

.....................................
