Cool thing you got here!! Is tat egg trays right in front of your kit?

thanks! yes they're egg trays. it somehow absorbs the noise and vibe of the drums so that the neighbors won't complain of the noise i make when i practice...haha and no complaints yet so far.

Hi guys,

just thought you guys might be interested to see how a traps kit would look in a relatively proper set up,

The kit is mainly traps A400 hardware with

12" 14" toms and a 20" kick.
13x4" Yamaha Absolute Maple Noveau Snare
Tama Iron Cobra Rolling Glide Double Pedals
20" Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride
18" Zildjian China Boy Low
16" Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash
16" Zildjian A Custom Crash
14" Sabian AA Hi-Hats

haha... when we first bring back this set. it was very dusty.

after a round of clean up with my son using scrubbing pad with Stainless Steel polish cleaner. it look better.

from far look shiny... but near, u can see some rust and pimple growing...hehee

@twiztedjoker

Nice, clean, innovative setup. I like it. Just curious: I see you are using a double bass pedal. Does any usual bass pedal attach to the 20" Traps Bass fine or does it need some kind of adapter.

From first looks, it seems that the bass hoops are too shallow for a bass pedal to be clamped on tight.

@Softwaremaker

Firstly, thanks for the compliments! The Traps bass shell comes with some sort of rubber bearing where the bass pedal can be clamped, so yeah - most pedal clamps would work just fine on this kit.

i'm really interested in how they sound. do they sound a lot like a real drum and does the bass drum give you that really solid low thumping sound?

Well...yes and no. I'm relatively satisfied with the bass considering how thin it is, and it does sound like a decent bass drum anyway. However, it obviously lacks depth and the boom you'd normally get from a standard 20x14 or what not. I meant to cut down on the bass anyway - it's what keeps the neighbors up all night. Planning to grab an Aquarian Super Kick II when i've got time and see how that sounds once i've set it up.

Yes, the bass seems to be the stumbling block here. BUT this is innovative because it compromises on what most of us mortal people in Singapore dont have here: SPACE

If you are a musician, whether you are playing for church, gigs, recordings, etc, you dont lug your drums with you anyways. AND good musicians I know practice with the worst-sounding kit at home (not implying here that the Traps one is :)). If they can practice to make a lousy kit sound good, then they can do wonders on a real shelled set.

SO - it is a good compromise. One thing I like about the setup is that you can easily subsitute a 18" Bass drum in there if you should want more thump for recordings or something ...

Oh, the nice people at woodwerkz have done just that with the traps kit in their jamming studio - replaced the bass with a standard 18".

Figured. I can imagine that people can accept the lack of shell and depth for the toms but the bass is a bit hard to fanthom. You are losing 18" of shell depth which gives you a flat sound.

Also, depending on how hard you are a hitter of the bass, 2 clamps on the 20" hoop that is connected to the stands ?

I dunno. Physics suggest the entire kit will move or be displaced a bit if you are a hard hitter.

Thoughts ?

NAH. I see where you're coming from, but the kit's really well built considering how slim it looks. I hit pretty hard and believe me - the thing doesn't budge. It could also be due to the fact that i've got a carpet underneath it but really, any drumkit that isn't on a carpet or similary rough surface would move after a couple of kicks. Btw, there' some vids on youtube of the kit mic'ed up that you guys might wanna check out. Was pretty surprised by how good they sounded myself.

reason i'm asking is cause i'm using a prt due to the space constrain in my room and i find my bass drum very unsatisfying. just no oomph.

I was previously using a Tama Swingstar kit and that the oomph on THAT kit was pretty sick. From what I remember it'll take up the same if less space then the PRT depending on how you have it set up (It was a fusion kit so the floor tom was attached to a cymbal stand). What skins you on anyway?
