Odb-3

question : Is ODB-3 (Boss Bass Over-Drive) recommended for genres like classic rock, hard rock, heavy metal, thrash metal?

is there any other suggestions for bass overdrive? not considering any budget..
trying to get my first bass pedal.. if possible pls post some links or audio sample with and without (for comparison purpose)..

i've not tried the odb3 but a common complaint i've read is that it's too harsh to be an overdrive

you might want to take a look, over there the threadstarter is looking for a modern tone which may be a totally different direction to what you are going for. but some of the pedal suggestions there may be versatile enough to do both.

some pedals you could consider-
homebrew hematoma
ehx bass big muff
mxr el grande
devi ever karaoke party
and maybe the ehx english muff'n

actually there are alot lah, just that i've tried all of these pedals except the BBM. i've tried the little big muff and english muff'n before though.

oO thx.. well now my question is.. if you compare ODB-3 with Digitech bass overdrive/distortion.. which is recommended?

it is pretty harsh as an overdrive... i had one a while back and sold it off because i couldn't deal with it, but in retrospect it's really good for cutting through the mix. i think it'd work for metal. no idea about the digitech though, i've never tried it before.

you should go down to swee lee and try them both out, i think they'll probably have them in stock.

i had odb-3 and even did some tracks with it. it was ok but its not transparent enuff for me and its just doesn't gel with me too well.

using hematoma, bbm and polish love pedal as my main gain/drive pedal.
