Hi guys, anyone taking their O's this year besides me?Come join in and share your fears with me!haha well, i need some help actually. This sounds ridiculous but does anyone of you know how to beat the boredom of reading CH notes? i can't seem to find the right motivation to read CH notes and it's pretty frustrating considering the fact that O's is just 53 days away.:( And,anyone knows how to do well in paper 2 of English?Much help would be appreciated fellow softies.

cheers p-pole!

CH = combined humanities? lol, please.. do not just study ONE topic for that. I'm from the batch of 09 and i think half to three quarters of the whole batch relied on Venice for SS. And guess what.. it didn't come out!

As for English, paper two is about technique. but it does also require some language skills (for the vocab section/summary/rephrasing of course) Learn to pick out the right words and rephrase properly.

there's this good book you can get.. i didn't get it. but a lot of people have recommended it.. 1001 words or something like that..

key is also to read a fair bit so you have a good grasp of vocabulary..

Combined humanities..........besides SS, are you taking any other elec? I took lit elec back in 2008. Yes agreed with j_m_s, don't do that. It pays to study everything. As for eng paper 2, simply put, ANSWER THE QUESTION. A lot of students, even english-educated ones (not discriminating here), make that mistake. JC compres are even harder, so if your'e struggling here it doesn't really bode well (i assume you want to enter JC). All the best for your 'O's, hope you hit your target and go where you wanna!

im actually quite happy that i didnt go for IP in the end. No disrespect meant. But i think having the O level experience beefs you up for the A Level experience.. in the sense that you get a similar feel (albeit much less stress!!) of taking a National exam and competing with thousands on our little red dot..

Agreed. The 'first time' feeling of sitting in that big hall, nerve wreaking I'd say. For English P2, you have to make sure you understand the passage really well, then, always ANSWER the question.
Btw I'm also from the '09 batch :)

thanks p-pole.j_m_s: yeah, combined humans:SS and history.Yeah,i'm trying to do that; study everything. hahaha but venice is very hard to comprehend! i don't know why..maybe it's the momentum to read up? and el, yup i guess i have to buck up on that. Guys, what about Science Prac? What came out for physics last year? i know that for chem it's all about qualitative analysis.and I usually have problems answering the question,i mean they will ask you to write what you observe and usually when i wrote what i 'observed',my teacher would mark me wrong. Is it possible if i get a different solution e.g, a white ppt., and others get a blue ppt for their experiment, will they mark me wrong? hur hur stress is best. :D :(

Hi im from batch...i can't remember haha. But I start loving SS few month before o lvl.

My way of studying SS last time was writing down the important points my teach hinted and memorize and understand.
Not just reading the notes. Very boring.
Just like memorizing and practicing a musical scale. When you performing on the stage, it will just flow out easily.

Goodluck bros.

Venice is actually pretty easy.. it's just like the political structure. rise and fall.. i studied globalisation and governance. haha. (which is also risky, you should study 3!)

try to incorporate feelings or emotions when studying ss lor...........................

for venice, i listened to some classical music while studying it...

i think it helped as i could relate the fall of venice to the music.

for SPA, just go memorize answers lahhhhh.

i know skill 3 can be regurgitated. forgotten about skill 1 and 2.... but i am sure i didn't do well for my spa as my peanuts were burnt completely. blah.

Talking about the point about 'O's being good preparation for 'A's, i'd just like to share my personal experience. In terms of exam environment and the fear of screwing up, yes i'd say it is probably the best prep. However, the 'O's has absolutely nothing on the 'A's in terms of academic material. The 'A's is much deeper, broader and yes, harder than the 'O's. I remember not studying much and hitting an 8 for 'O's, maybe with more mugging and some luck i could've easily gotten a 6. Its a different world in JC though. I see fellow 8 pointers struggling to promote and cope with the workload and sheer amount of knowledge and skill sets required. Even now, some of these people are still hoping to just pass their prelims (which just ended for me), which isn't the way to go.

Do not ever make the mistake of thinking you can do shittily for prelims in 'A's and suddenly get all As for the actual thing. No, doesn't happen that way. In short, the academic prep for 'O's is nothing compared to the 'A's. It'll be a whole new world, especially with THE most hated subject in JC, the infamous project work, where you work like a dog to get an A for just a H1 subject, yet the world seems to fall apart when you get a 'mediocre' B. I know, i've been there. It happened to me. You can't do well in JC without consistent work. Absolutely not. You'd have to be damn smart to be able to get 3As for 'A's after struggling to promote and then starting to work hard only in march of your JC2 year.

Some of you all might feel this is out of point, that i'm trying to scare all the 'O' levellers just because i'm being a bastard. Let me clarify that my intentions were not to do that, yes it was meant to scare them, but only to prepare them for the life that will come should they want to and are able to qualify to enter JC. I don't want these guys to take the same path of destruction that many of my friends took after finishing the 'O's. Cheers all!

:( i feel like crying when you said this. If only i was in the express stream, then things would be a lot more easier;most of my teachers doubt the ability of the secondary 5 students to do well in the o levels and would always compare us with the sec 4 Exp students. It's quite demoralizing somehow to know that a boy who scored 13 points for N levels is struggling somehow to do well in the O's. On the brighter side, when there's a will, there's a way.......so i have to work damn bloody hard. haha, softies aspire me to give my best. :D

Damn, I can't even remember what my Os were about. I only remembered writing my name, IC num on the maths and sci papers, then sleep. LOL. Although I did attempt other subjects.

But that was years back. I've learnt my lesson.

Your teachers wanna compare sec 5 to sec 4 exp? Your teachers should have seen me and my batch of sec 4 exp. LOL. Major nightmare for teachers.
