noteworthy drum chops

One of my favourite drum intros of all time is the starting part of TOTO's Rosanna.

But I do not know what's the technical term for the strokes..

Paradiddle diddle del?

Help.

rosanna

Its called half time shuffle.

My share : Steve Jordan. He is just a funk cat. Anyone knows what on earth is stuck in his hair? You can see him on drummerworld.com. Hooooo he sure plays fat man.

Thanks!

forgive me if I damn noob in drums. :D

Just ordered my pintech ejam, can't wait to be the drummer I can never be!

Also,

Dennis Chambers playing with John McLaughlin for the Crossroads festival...

That's quite note worthy.

Song: Silent Jealousy
Band: X Japan
Drummer: Yoshiki

Part: Intro drums is pretty impressive for me. There're probably better out there, but to me, this was THE intro drum fill when I first heard the song. It was so... wow. Despite turning down to 0.5x speed and trying to figure out exactly what he played as well as searching online for some tabs, it's been a tough run so far. Tried to tab out manually but it didn't seem quite correct either. Watched his videos and his hands move too fast lol. Just impressive.

I thought chops were about the physical fitness and mental 'freedom' that the drummer has? A pattern used in fills and solos should be a 'lick', right?

I think the most mind blowing chops come from Vinnie C., from the Karizma album 'Document'. 'Aliens ripped my face off' is friggin INSANE, with many nods to Tony Williams.
