Hi everyone this is my first post!...recently i'm interested in playing jazz guitar after visiting the guitar77 website. under instructor dere the jacob play the jazz like quite nice so i'm looking for some information about playing jazz. Any tabs or music to show me so that i can improve on it?...or any thing u wanna say about those style! thanks!

haha okie thanks anyway! but actually i'm looking for some one that got some tabs or website so that i can practice and know more about the jazz stuffs...=)

i wanna learnt some jazz guitar. But never listen to much jazz. so which songs/artise should i listen to, to get a headstart. Preferbly easy songs to play for a noob new to jazz .

I'm also interested in practicing some jazz. I usually play rock and metal... But I want to get some variety.

jazz... whoa...!!!

i'm not an expert, but with jazz, i listened to these guys:
charlie hunter, john scofield, mike stern, t.j. kirk...
these are not pure jazz styles like wes montgomery or something, they are more of jazz/funk/groove.

i used to laugh at a friend of mine for introducing me to jazz. its difficult o understand. and i feel the songs are only fit for XXX movies! that was like 11yrs ago...

for learning jazz chords, there is this one book title "Jazz Guitar Chord System" by scott henderson (fusion/jazz/rock guitarist for tribal tech, also solo blues and fusion guitarist) by hal leonard. that's all i can share. just wait for some "real jazz players" to answer to your post to get more in-depth info.

I don't know any online resources but while I was in the SAF MDC, I had to play some jazz.

The thing is, I never go into it. It still doesn't connect with me.

Hence, after the months of jamming/practicing/trying, I can only boost of doing some lame imitation of jazz.

So one aspect you should and MUST start out, if you want to learn a particular genre of music, is to listen to it.

Check out some classic dudes like Chick Corea, Duke Ellington, Joe Pass, Pat Methenay and so on.

There's nothing to be afriad of when it comes to jazz, sure it has "more" theory and "more" stuff to learn, but hell, ask a jazz guitarist to play some headbanging thrash metal riff/licks. Chances are, he'll be like me, just imitating to the best of his abilities. He'll never be as thrash metal as the REAL thrash metal guitarists. Have passion, will travel. Just go for it.

for ur guys' info, the guitarist from Testament now plays in jazz/bebop band called Alex Skolnick Trio. i've seen the CD at Borders, maybe u guys can check that out too.

its always best to know more than "a few genres", it makes u an overall complete musician, and an open one too...

IMHO...

Or Rick from Harry's.. Go down there sometime, have a bevvy and watch the band go at it. You won't regret it if you're a fan of jazz.
