Nobody heard of Derek Roddy???O_o

every death metal player must know derek roddy... joey jordison is nothing compared to him. Speed, power, grace, everything. He can even play jazz (of course not as authentically but more than passable).

that's sad news. i'm a guitar player largely influenced by drum beats, the likes of Roddy/ Sandoval/ Laureno/ Frost/ Von Bloomberg et al, are very inspiring to me.

the expression through musical instruments is an artistic capacity. let's not reduce the capacity of a certain individual in light of another. there isn't a definite boundary for artistic expression, it is largely inspirational after one acquires a degree of proficiency, of course.

i find Roddy's departure really unfortunate because his stint in Hate Eternal proved that he's extremely suitable for the genre.

Subversion>>Derek's departure is indeed unfortunate...
However... since the death metal scene is an extremely small (and seemingly exclusive) market... groups like hate eternal find themselves incurring losses during their tours...

And though the illegal spreading of music is helping to boost their fame, it appears otherwise financially... which is sad...

Geoge Kollias is a mad drummer too...
AND HE'S WITH NILE!!!!

... can we not mention joey jordison here?XDD
I think he's had enough mention in the other thread....

Derek Roddy plays jazz... mostly as a wedding performer...
LOL... I'd rather have him... with Hate Eternal and Nile along for the ride...XDDDD

whoop... dead link there mel...

How'bout Proscriptor??
He's pretty obscure in my opinion...
He's with Absu... played with Melechesh for a while... he's mad too...

DM not as small compared to black metal. there is a sizeable pool of DM bands but those who are really good with their instruments are numbered.

if one is in it for the $$$, then DM/ BM bands are the wrong scene to be in. however, pertaining to Roddy, he's a pro & he's not been deservingly rewarded for his tremendous ability. respect.

i mentioned Tony Laureno in my above post- he's of course, the departed NILE drummer, Kolias is nevertheless a worthy replacement. listen to Laureno in Internecine: Book of Lambs (Roddy playing on selected tracks in this one).

i'm sorely missing materials by Proscriptor with ABSU's existence being perpetually doubtful...

Tony only sessioned for Nile after Pete Hommoura tore his right shoulder in a non-performance related incident after the Among the Catacombs of Nephren-ka tour...

Tony also sessioned for Dimmu Borgir for their Ozzfest stint...

Absu DOES seem a bit too quiet indeed...

hmmm... flo's link doesn't wanna work for me...lol
maybe at a later time then...XDDD

D Rod explained that playing DM music is really killing him... not physically, he's far too fit for that, but he doesn't get any money at all... at most times he even has to PAY to play... and that's just really miserable for a working musician who needs to eat. He's hoping that his departure will enable him to do things at his own pace and hopefully get somewhere financially.

Flo Mounier is way too destructive...I have never seen anyone in my life playing at 260bpm blasts on the Pearl Eliminators like he does...and he does crazy crazy stuff. All Cryptopsy albums are great...but I dont like the Lord Worm guy. Kollias and Roddy the man but they are mostly about speed. So does Tim the missile Yeung and Waterson....I was shocked to see a video of both of them hugging after Yeung did 897 hits at NAMM. And seeing Gene Hoglan hold 235bpm on some old Camco's is shocking!

I think Kevin Talley does a wonderful job sitting in for Hate Eternal....I loved his days with Dying Fetus before Sayenga took over. Of course he was suppose to be Slayers drummer before he was recommended by Kerry King to Chimaira :D .

Most metal drummers leave after a certain tour I dunno why...we can see Andols becomes stressed out and then walks back and forth in the car park for no reason and then suddenly quits Chimaira in the DVD...and it also includes ex-Soilworks drummer who starts kicking stuff and also leaves the band...then we get a sad  message from Roddy on his forum that has quit. Even Steve Vai admitted it was hard for his drummers to play in his tours and thats why he changed Mike Mangini and then Virgil and so on. Something bout having to play that speed and power every night on tour is just too much.

Anyway got to see Slayer!

Its terrific to see so many blasters here!

I hope George Kollias sticks it with Nile longer though.
Originally, Pete Hommoura was with Nile, but he had to quit due to an injury he sustained on his right shoulder.
Then Derek Roddy (ex Hate Eternal) and Tony Laureno (ex Anglecorpse) had to session with Nile for a while until they finally settled with George.

For me, I think that it's good for extreme drummers to shuffle a bit because sooner or later, their drums will start to sound "similar". As if flashing back to a previous album or something.
Though for Nile's case, other folks say that there isn't much difference between drummers. Due to the unique Egyptian theme that Karl Sanders keep throwing out.
To me Pete was solid, Derek too. Tony was more of a "flash blaster" very fast indeed (but I managed to pick out where he "missed" in some songs). While George was more defined but still maniacally fast and powerful.
