not to prevent the virus from hitting schs.

The fatality rate of the H1N1 isn't so severe to warrant the extention of the holidays for now. Besides, we are fortunate that we had a lot of time to prep ourselves for the flu to hit here so I guess the government and most of us are well prepared for everything and anything.
It's not like the SARS period. I remember practically everyone I knew was living in fear of the epidemic. My area was literally a ghost town - no one dared to venture out into the streets unless neccessary

I still vividly remember that jolt of euphoria upon hearing school was closed for 2 weeks.

JUST WAIT. wait till you ENLIST and then you'll be wishing you'd be back in JC mugging your ass off for your exams. but time don't wait for no one.
and be careful what you wish for. during the SARS panic, you all were in primary school. so you had extra break. i was in sec 1 during the SARS scare, and my june holidays was 2 weeks. yes. 2 weeks was cut off my june holidays cause of the 2 weeks "SARS holiday". and that was when online learning started to become popular in schools, and i had a 5-tonner load of chinese homework to do.
