New Purchase - Paul Reed Smith Singlecut.

Just bought this. I had been eyeing this and the Gibson Class 5 Quilt Top in cranberry as well, but decided to go for this one, which is discontinued for 2007.

Very balanced on the lows and highs and probably one of the most spot-on guitars when it comes to the mid-range. The voicings are one of a kind and really unique compared to the Fender Strat and Gibson Les Paul Studio that I own.

Beautiful and you definitely made the better choice with the PRS over the Gibbo for that price bracket (figuring you forked out about 6K).

I tried out about 5 Class 5s about 2 years ago which suffered from a variety of workmanship ailments and failures. Only one of them would I have considered buying had the vendors not overpriced the thing. Plus, the 'Cranberry' finish of the Class 5s (as well as the Tangerine Burst) doesn't look anything like it does on the Web and close up is deeply unattractive.

Having played a couple of SCs at Davis I know that one of those babies is on my wish list for the future.

Congrats on your new purchase. Now, when can I caress it? :)

Hi Vernplum,

Agree with you on the pricing and build. The difference in the latter is quite obvious after spending considerable time doodling with both guitars.

The price difference for both axes is quite substantial, btw. Both sound amazing, but I couldn't see how one could be paying an unjustified, obscene an amount for the Gib.

I might be flamed or get killed because of this but....somehow reminds me of the Marlique Guitar that Mike(Standard Value) is selling :D

Modern Eagles come in Satin finishes in Red Tiger, gold hardware and brushed metal finished humbucker covers.

I believe the guitar featured in the post is a singlecut in black cherry, nonetheless amazing looking instrument!

SJ, you're right. Mine's a standard singlecut. Not really into gold hardware as well!

Awesome looking guitar man.

The PRS Singlecut was really the best guitar i got for 2007. Its tight sounding. Very clear and articulate. Haven't played a better guitar that takes distortion as well as the Singlecut. Its just face melting

Heres mine. Hope i am not hijacking

Hi ChanMin,

It felt just right the first time I tried it. It felt all the better during the subsequent tries (it was the 5th time I tried before I actually bought it). Honestly, there's nothing for me about this guitar sticks out like a sore thumb; it was quite a pleasant surprise.

I actually do like this better compared to the LP Studio - construction, playability, tone, etc.

WOW. nice guitar bro. understand you have a LP Studio too? perhaps can share a little about the difference in tone?

Hi LoneEurope,

I find the Studio to be a bit too enthusiastic with the lows and highs. As I find it, the Singlecut is nicely balanced across all frequencies - it's really like it knows what notes you're going play, how you're going to play them, and controls the tone and output. The result for me is a tight, clear sound - any way you play it.

Nice one, Nanoshred! Love the volume/tone pots. Are those stock pickups?

killinghall, that's a real beauty. The flame is...stunning.

Would love to hear your recordings with this baby.
