new guitar. explorer? strat?

hey people. here to get some suggestions.

im going for a upgrade. from aria lp copy. the aria got screwed. ha

anyway i have come down to 3 different guitars. need some advice from users of this guitars and anyone who has a comment to make

i basically play very vast genre of stuff. from metal like metallica, trivium and LOG to old school like gnr.skidrow.deep purple. to some blues like clapton and modern stuff too. so yeah.

anw the guitars are
1. epiphone korina 1958 explorer ebony or goth explorer.
2. fender fat strat. hss.
3. ibanez 350dx

basically im looking for a sound that could produce high gain stuff like metallica. to a rock and roll sound. to a decent clean sound. although i know its not possible to cover all the types of tone. im hoping for something balanced and maybe leaning more towards high gain stuff. so yeah. and good playability is pretty important to me.

budget arnd 800 bucks

haha. hmm the neck was kinda repaired at GC once alreayd , did the pup switch too, but now its prety much gone. 2 yaers old already. the guitar fell face
first onto the ground. the neck is screwed again i think. and the last 3 string doesnt keep in tune. :?

but i plan to keep the pups. a 59 and dimarzio fred
 
actually dude you can tailor the sound you want from the 3 guitars u mentioned.

the more important issue is the playability to you.

Go try out the 3 guitars and see which one u like playing the best.

Some ppl like me prefer 24 3/4 scale of gibsons others like the longer 25 1/2 scale of ibanez and fender.


which one just feels better to you.

also think about single coil sounds if your playing high gain metal most if the time the single coils wont in play that much.
 
hey ciel. thanks for the advice. i think i would go try them myself. but the explorer will have thinner neck compared to the fender strat eh?

get the rg350EX instead (not the one in white, but in black) and put ur dimarzio pups into them and get ready to rock and roll dude.

if u don't mind adding abit more, get a gotoh bridge.

nt really. the epiphone ones might be. the gibson ones defintely are not thinner unless their the 60s slim taper carve then they are abt the same if your more of a shredder type person maybe the thinner neck will appeal to you but i find the thicker necks are more comfortable and less hand fatigue if your playing for long periods especially if your doing a lot of rythm work. But then these are personal preference.

im more of a gibby person hah but you'll get more tonal variety with the strat.
 
EXPLORER!!!!

i am a epiphone 1958 korina ebony explorer owner and i am darn happy with it. i can get the tone i want..i paly mostly death,trash metal (slayer etc) and this guitar works great for me..the neck is smooth and fast too. just that when u buy from swee lee make sure its in good condition coz all my gold hardware has some green shit on it...anyone knows how to remove it?

The strat should do good.

You have a mixture of single coils and a humbucker,should be able to cover a wider tonal range?

Whatever that means,I'd go for the strat though.
 
get odd size guitar.... suffer the odd size case...

go up the bus problem.
get down the bus problem.

go anywhere also problem.

thank god i didn't get the dimebag last time...

anyway get the strut. 800 can get you a pretty nice 2nd strut or a brand new mexican.

If you're good at tweaking you can try the Squier Strat Deluxe... upgrade to locking tuners ($65) and upgrade the bridge to a JB jr/lil 59 ($100) and you've got a rockin guitar!

chnge the nut, (40 at guitar connections w/ price of nut included) zhng the bridge pickup like ^^ he said

get a good distort pedal (boss ds-1 60-80 max)

bin4christ: hey. hmm ya have a point there. strat would be a great choice. but then wouldnt changing the pups remove the classic fender tone? and furthermote in all honesty i'd prefer the explorer shape. glam. haha

anw about the LTD explorer. ya have any recommendations? but i saw some at davis. they dont look good to me that is. ha. the ebony epi explorer with gold hardware is woooohooo. haha

edder: haha. ya have a point too. BUT i wont mind lugging that baby arnd. guess its up to the indiviual. thanks anw!
