New drummer in the flat below mine....

Many apologies to the drumming softies out there.

I started this thread not to flame and discourage new drummers out there. In fact Singapore has a great drumming community as can be seen from the Drum Exchanges that we've been having.

The main gripe that I have is that pointless and needless wailing on the drums IS disturbing regardless of whether you are a musician or not. Yes i understand that we all need to practise and that'll incur some noise but as my neighbour is just below me, i can clearly hear what he is playing. There's not a hint of a groove happening, not a hint of a rudiment not a hint of anything productive in practise sense. If I hear blast beats then I'll know 'yeah metal drummer downstairs...fierce'...you guys get what I mean.

I'm coming to terms with the fact that it might be a small child playing in the flat below me. Nevertheless I think that some guidance is required so that the time behind the kit can be spent effectively rather than wastefully.

Frummer you live in Yishun too? haha. Add me on msn!

jenocide, having your own drumsets as early as possible will only help you. Without any companion instrument, playing on the drums will always be what you called "random beat". Because it's not adding attributes to anything except silence.

which is the point! i dont feel anything cool at all when i play all alone (unless i have a mp3 plugged on and i am playing along). i can only play fine when theres something to play alongside with, like a bassist or summat. me not that pro yet to be able to play those kind of sweet sounding drum solos... or rather... i can, but i need some pre-playing inspiration first, something to "kick start" my "engine", else, it just feels plain wierd playing to emptyness haha, which is why i hesitate to get a kit sometimes...

jowell sorry! u practising especially when u just started out doesnt warrant me or anyone else calling u an asshole. sorry again!

MadWereWolfBoy! 829 is walking distance from my place! haha. Or maybe I walk a lot. Let's meet up some day! Add me on msn too! =)

Im gonna be very lame... I REPEAT VERY LAME...
okie say if you dont wanna teach the guy below you then just use ur feet to stomp the ground and keep time for him haha just like the conductors of the old days... =P

Bro, Caijulong maybe you could be a representative for drummers in Yishun "LOL" , I was surprised to know there are many drummers in Yishun, i am at blk 752. I am new to drum, and my stroke is so so, I am not there yet but I am learning ,the only thing is that I am in my prime. I started late on drumming but my passion to drums grows. I do have a drumset but it is not complete yet . Maybe one day Yishun Drummers could organise a get together in Chong Pang or NorthPoint, to talk about our passion on drum and share our thoughts. Those Yishun Drummers who share the same passion and had read this threads can just drop me a line at Email Rahims33@gmail or PM me.

hehe danzuk, if you're free drop by scape this saturday from 12pm to 5pm. It's our monthly DXS meet-up. Drummers gathering. Do come by if you're free! Do you have msn? Add me?

jowell and tim, I believe you guys can be very good bros eventually =)

Let's make use of this thread to find more drummers around our area. We can meet up occassionally over coffee as well as introduce more of them to come for
our monthly drum meet up!

bro paradiddle - you really should make friends with your new drumming neighbour downstair - bring him to DXS Meetup.....

I think it's a good experience here, that we sometimes do not know how the listener really suffers because we are so focus on practicing that we forgot about the world around us....which is true - happens to me everyday...

Also he stopped drumming as soon as you start - I guess he was listening to your playing and maybe telling himself - "Wah got so Awesome Drummers Upstairs" ...paiseh better stop...

Make friends share your experience with him/her ... that would be really nice bro.

Cheers !
