New Amp

Hey guys,

I just realised that i am begining to get bored with my Spider IV 15W combo. I am contemplating a swtich to either a Marshall MG15DFX of a Vox pathfinder 15R. I personally am more inclined towards the Vox because of it's warm tone. I want a more tailored tone which i don't really get from the Spider though i am happy with it. So if anyone care to give some insight?:p

Why don't you save up for something better. IMO changing from a Spider 15W to another 15W amp is not much a big upgrade. Get an amp with bigger speakers and higher watts maybe? If you like vox, try the valvetronix amp series. I own the Vox AD30VT (10inch speakers) and its pretty decent.

The VT series is good. But get larger ones with 12" speakers. Once I switched to 12" I couldn't go back!

the change won't be that dramatic, but it'll bring out more bottom end, especially if it's a closed back cab. i personally prefer 12" to smaller driver sizes because of that.

there are a few economical options in the low/ 5 watt tube amp range. there's the vox AC4, lil night train, blackstar ht-5, blackheart little giant. these amps range from $400 plus to $800 plus first hand.

Although Vox Pathfinder sounds stupidly big when played loud. A bit of rattle but still, it's good tone for the price.

Vox warm? Hmmmmm. It's chimey, very so-called 3D sounding, plenty of top end and sparkle. Not so much warm, I'd relate warm to having more mids. Vox ain't like that.

As the saying goes:
Fender for cleans. Marshalls for crunch. Vox? For Everything.

Yeah thanks for the advice, got any ideas where i can get a fairly cheap one. :)

i'd actually recommend you invest in a good, small stack as oppossed to making do with the cheapest unit & still not be happy with it. as mentioned above, the Blackheart/ Blackstar/ Kustom/ Vox offerings, all offer singing amps for the money.
