Hi guys, i recently got my copy of GPO ( garritan's personal orchestra ).... now, i want to get a keyboard. But since i already got my GPO, i find getting a keybord is kind of a waste as i already have the orchestra sounds i want, although the synth sounds would be a great boost to my music. Should i get a midi controller? or a keyboard? I really feel like getting a keyboard but my budget is only 500+.. i don think it's worth , btw, what would u recommend for a midi controller?.. i am currently using creative prodikeys( wonder why the hell i bought it ) ..i need something better than that! lol.. something close to my piano.

Another option, i got a disklavier that was bought like more then 10 years ago. Its got midi in and midi out ports, i was wondering if i could play on it, and the midi singal going into my com, and with my GPO, produce the nice sound by my disklavier. I've been trying to do this( i got a midi cable) , but im not sure how i go abt doing this. I only managed to send signal to the disklavier, and i got it playing.. but i duno how to send the singal to my com, anyone can offer some advice?
thx..

I think what you need is a midi breakout box. These breakout boxes are usually connected from your keyboard/midi controller output, to the break out box and into your computer usb port. alternatively, with more outputs, you can send them to an array of tone generators. M audio products offers a few ranges of these. you can check the ranges from M-audio at http://www.m-audio.com. Hung bros. at Sim Lim, 4th level sells these products, Sinamex at paradiz basement also. Price range are about 80 sing dollars onwards, depending on how many midi inputs and outputs you require. I'm using a old roland keyboard as a midi controller and it works fine with my m-audio midi sport. I hope this information helps.

Cheers!

yea thx, it helps alot :D.. actually, i got midi in and out on my computer, i bought audigy 2 platinum pro and it came with a hub, it's just that i don know how the thing works.. l0l.. in my sequencer sonar, how do receive the midi info?.. issit change the input and output of the channel? becoz i tried that and it didnt work.. tried every input possible..

u need to make sure that u've configured GPO to receive midi in the first place. so u need to check the midi settings on sonar, check that midi input u've selected your audigy midi in port. midi is not something u just plug in and everything works like plug and play.

on a side note, i wouldn't recommend the disklavier as a midi controller. it's quite limited in its ability, because it can only send limited number of midi parameters. if you're gonna play GPO, u'll want a lot of expressive control. u should invest in a good midi controller with built in midi interface. or you can also get a midi breakout box and a separate synth with midi controller capabilities.

u can get an m-audio keystation 61, or radium 61. should be well within your budget. only thing about these two is that there's no expression pedal input(what on earth were the designers thinking!). you might want to enquire at sweelee about the edirol PCR series keyboards too.

if u're willing to go second hand, nowadays can find midisport 2x2 for about $80-100, and use the remainder of your budget to get a cheap synth. i have a friend who actually uses two djx keyboards for midi controllers. cheap, looks weird, but they work!

just my 2 cents. hope it's been helpful. :D

what synth will u reccommend?.. im considering a synth as i want good sound and something that i would be using for quite long... im also quite interested in getting the m-audio midi controller.. lol.. damn.. but my budget is only 700.. im willing to go second hand, any second hand shops or ppl selling cheap synths ?
