Hey cR.Drums, I highly recommend the paerl rhythm traveller + mesh heads option if you intend to have just a practise set at home. It saves space, and reduce noise level by quite a huge bit compared to a normal size acoustic kit.
And of course if you have ways to ngeotiate with your parents about gettin a kit (bringing them down to the showroom and have them try it out themselves), by all means do so. If they're really stubborn like my parents, then I guess I'll go wth girlpants' idea if I were you.
But at the end of the day, you really got to consider the noise level and inconvenience you may potentially bring to your family members cos afterall, they'll be the nearest and most exposed to the sound volume created. When I first bought my set, I was public enemy no.1 in my household, even my dog started ignoring me. So I went on looking for options to minimise the volume of the drums possible as I dont want to bring any inconvenience to my family.
I'm sure you'll find a way la if you're determined and passionate enough, so good luck with your 1st drum purchase and have fun!
