2-3 years ago i was like you , trying hard to convince my parents in getting me a drumset . Just sit them down , and show them drum mutes or whatever products that helps reduce noise . But of course you must "promote" the product even better than the website .
Tell them how amazing those products work in reducing noise . Cause after they've got you the drumset (believing that the product works) , they can't do anything if it doesnt too . LOL .
and tell them it's okay to play the drums from 10am onwards til 10pm . but obviously don't whack like you're mastering chinese kungfu .
i used drum mutes , got them from Plaza Singapura's Yamaha , they work okay . It's still loud , but compared to a normal drumset without any mutes , it's alot alot alot better . Will still be able to hear me playing in my house , but once you step out of it , you can't hear anything . Yeah . So i havent receive any complains from anyone about me drumming .
Just try your best , let your parents know about drum mutes or any other product that reduce noise . It'll cost you around a hundred to get a full set muted , but compare it to soundproofing a room which can cause you thousands . ( By the way drum mutes affects the sound of the drum , in case you don't know . So it doesnt feel that nice compared to a real drumset. )
Hope you get your drumset soon , meanwhile just practice on your pillow or practice pad
Oh yeah , please dont "imagine" a space for your drumset , measure more than needed to be safe . You don't want to lie to yourself that "oh okay , my drumset can be placed here , it'll be okay." and end up sleeping on the drumset and using your floortom as a laptop desk . hahaha .
Take care !
