Hi guys, I'm currently using an Ibanez sa160qm and I thought of changing the stock pickup SSH to a pickup which suits hardrock and metal. I'm not sure what brand and model of pickups to look out for. In addition I would like to know if it's advisible to change all the pickups or just some. Lastly, where can I get my pickups changed? Help really appreciated, tnx truckloads.

People here would recomend EMGs for Metal. i ould recomend Dimarzio Cruisers for the 2 singles & a D-sonic for the bridge. it would be suitable for most genres also

semi seriously speaking ( SSS )
if you do not know what you want... you probably do not need it ....

Alternatively, just stake out the B&S section
and buy used pickups....
try .. dun like ... sell
repeat till u find something you like

Yup,EMG and Dimarzio are gd pickups..Though your tone maybe lost..Except if used a dimarzio tonezone..

Sorry to bump in like tat??? My guitar is a single pickup ...wat if i wan to change it to humbuker.....wat should i do??? n price too???

so u mean all other pickups make the guitar lose its tone? if that were the case den i dun see how the tonezone makes the guitar retain its tone. unless u can specifically show us a measurement of the tone of the wood when tapped and when picked up through the tonezone.

not trying to nit pick anything or start a flame but hell pls use ur brain when u post. if u have a silly opinion, keep it to urself and if u have a notion of what tone is den back it up with facts like maybe how a certain pickup is more bassy than the next or provides more compression. dun even start the shit abt how one pickup has tone and the other doesnt, only way a pickup has no tone is if the coil is broken and the pickup aint working cos the way i see it, sharp tone or round tone, warm tone or cold sterile tone, tight tone or lose tone, tone is still tone and subjective to the user.

Yes Fahmi, the Tonezone doesn't mean more tone. I thought it was a play on the words! ;) If anything, the TZ is very overwound and has ridiculously boosted mids & low end - its compressed, loose bass & hyped up mids can make for a pup delicious for rock but often found muddy & ill defined.

A "better" Tonezone is the Dimarzio Double Whammy. Its not as hot - not so compressed - has less bass - tight! - but retains that midrange. Sleeper pup, great for those who dig the TZ but cannot stand its drawbacks.

Of course, you know, my HAS Sound Viper pwns all!!!! 8O
