We need more info man... what kind of music you like to play, what do you hope to find in that guitar (playability, neck shape, pups) , just everything... also a budget is good.

I know you are in the army. :D So $450 per mth now... hahahaha....

hahaha..eh...dun like that la daniel..make fun of my teeny weeny army allowance..haha..well...i play mostly rock, some church music,pop...i am not really sure abt the neck playability and stuff...i am not that pro yet..dan..you should know more than me..care to help?lol..anyway..no $$ for gibson k dan..haha

i'm no expert on Gibsons and Epiphones. Let the rest of the more experiecned SOFTies guide you. :D

But I say, SAVE. Look at Lifehouse. In army too, and what did he get? A lovepedal Eternity and Dragon eh? If you have patience, save!

well.. my epiphone 1956 les paul goldtop with tt p90 pups sounds sweet.. u might 1 2 get a lp wif alnico pups.. no ceremic! i heard ceremic from an ibanez lp.. sux...

orville les paul standard or above. They have deep neck joints. Orangeguitar have one for 1.6k (althought it cost abit high aha), althought not too sure if it have deep neck joints but MOST orville have deep neck joints (not including korean production line), for the pricing, i believe you cant even sniff any les paul with a deep neck joint for 1.6k unless you custom made or made it yourself

not really

Ceramic pickups have high magnetic retentivity, but low flux density

Alnico pickups have low magnetic retentibity, but hi flux density

Samarium cobalt pickups have high magnetic retentivity and hi flux density

juz quoting from mi textbook

Depends really.

Ceramic have a very straight forard sound to it. Hit the strings = Out to the amp

Alnico = Hit the strings, magnets shape and mold the sound.

Alnico 2 = Musical magnet. Thats what IME and what many others think.

Dont use me as an example. I worked before army so had a few low end guitars which I liquidated for pedals and bought other guitars.

If you really want a decent Les Paul, minimum is a MIJ LP copy. Personally I prefer a Gibson Classic and above. But.. Buy what speaks to you or as what Shredcow will say. Must have MOJO... Go used to save money.

Alnico or Ceramic? I prefer Alnico in my guitars but I won't rule out having a Ceramic equipped guitar maybe in the future.

Erm. I really don't know about Gibson and LPs.. I can tell you if the guitar is in good shape or sounds nice or something, but to value it? Nope... but if you are buying brand new, form like Swee Lee... then no issue aye?

not really sure yet...am thinking of a burny RLG-70S...or maybe a gibson with hum or....like wad they say..a lp that has tone, feel & MOJO..aghag
