ehm..how do i start off...

how do you guys actually improvise? just any how hamtam? if any how hamtam..how do you know what notes to hit?

practice more and trial and error to hear how a particular notes sound?

i know there are scales which you can use to compliment nicely with the music..so do we memorise the pattern of the scales..and hit the notes inside the scale?

and how do we choose which scale to use? we can choose more than 1 scale to mix together right? but how do we go about choosing them?

thanks in advance yo

jus listen lots and fool ard with the notes. usually people play the notes around the end notes. it comes with experience and exposure.

have fun!

:D

i use all the notes to solo cause rhythm behind the solo dont usually stay at one chords. Can say i use chromatic scales....hahahhaha...its confusing to remember what scales to solo at what chords...etc..so to me,use all the notes and not confine to scales.Listen more to your playing, create melody out of the solo...learning to play by ears....mistakes make while figuring out solos became your own licks, which you wouldnt have stumbled upon if you were given the exact notes example guitar tab..etc.Understand the fretboard...eg...low notes...middle sound notes and high notes at higher frets...

what i feel is u cant teach a person how to improvise..u can just suggest..
bro u know this technique solfege(spelling?)

its like u hum then play on the guitar..
develop the finger intuision kind of thing..
so that u can create a feel , texture or attack to the actual song..

try to visualise, thats the key..

another way is create variation, like 1st movement then 2nd ...etc
then u pick which one u like most...the diff part is to remember wat r the notes..coz when u "feel" the notes are gone ...no gravity as Kiko put it

i know the humming thing..but guess im not experience enough to know which note will sound like what i hum..and maybe i have a bad ear :(

hmm..any easier way to remember how a note sounds? practicing scale?

that was the same question i asked when i first learned the guitar...but i found out that there's really no easy way. You just gotta keep on practicing. =)

wat to practice u ask?
just play anything over a backing track..
record it if possible...so later u can listen and spot ur mistake..
and learn not to do it again..

basically its just ur self confidence..when soloing thats all..

play all your scales lah go internet find for scales. thats for me lah as a bassist i have so many things to pratice and work out all the major minor dominiant scales.not to mention paticising on working out bass licks form scales again.
