Hi all,

My friend just got a brand new digitech whammy. The first time the pedal was connected to the powerpoint, it works. But the moment, the amp is turned on, the pedal stop working. After which, the pedal won't respond anymore. The adaptor for the ppedal becomes hot, even though the pedal is not working.

Does anyone know what just happened?

Your help is appreciated.

brand new from shop?

Bring it back to the shop and check with them.

The adaptor getting hot is not a good sign. Dont try to power it up again or with another adaptor. If the damage is due to user fault, it might not be covered under the warranty.

Thank you.

Yea, it's brand new. But it's not bought in Singapore. Will Swee Lee be able to fix the problem even if the pedal wasn't bought from them?

bought online?

whats the voltage rating of the adpator? 110vac or 220vac to 240vac? There should be a sticker or imprint on the adaptor that state these value,

Primary- xxx Vac,
secondary- xx Vac/dc

take note of the bigger value(usually on the primary side), 110/120 or 220/230/240

Iam not sure if you are aware of the voltage difference between some foreign countries and ours.

Anyway, the 2 major rating of house power is 110/120vac and 220/230/240vac depending on location of country. Ours one is at 230volt AC.

Thus, if the pedal is gotten overseas with 110vac adaptor and being plugged in to our singapore power socket, it will be sending 2x the rated voltage of which the adaptor is supposed to take. It wont last long before frying the thing.

It was bought online. This is what's printed on the adaptor.

Input: 120V ~ 60Hz 18W
Output 1: 9V ~ 1.3A
Output 2: 3V ~ 0.1A
Class 2 Transformer

Does it mean that the adaptor can only sustain 120vac? If the adaptor is fried, does it affect the pedal?

Thanks.

yup yup, input at 120v~ means 120vac go into the adapter, convert to voltage compatible for powering up effect for usage

hard to say whether effect will still work. Only way to find out is to get replacement adapter, either original or compatible voltage rating adapter(230 vac to 9vac at 1.3ampere rating) to test out.
