Need help in choice of guitar.

the best thing about the Smartwood- its price. it lists slightly above $2K.. after genuine interest & sound bargaining, i´m sure you´ll get it for >$2K..
icon_wink.gif
isn´t that a steal? can you really get a LP for >$2K these days...?

that natural finish is another reason for a more defined midrange... i´m not into the gold hardware though... but that´s just me...

i think the new batch of gibsons has just arrived but there aren´t as many new ones as there are Fenders. the other LP i checked out was the Ltd Colour Edn. sounds slightly more defined than a typical LP Studio. Reason- uncovered humbucker... i think we share the same preference for an LP neck- Slim Taper! had enough of rounded ´59...

no RR5 for me- definitely no!

i´ve shifted my focus to a BC Rich Ironbird body art series, which will be in stock in October. plenty of time to save up...

What´s up?

But you can always change the pickups

As long as you like the overall feel of the guitar in general I think its ok.

The only bad thing about the Studios...they come in 59 rounded...no 60s neck...that´s probably y I´ve yet to get another LP and the price as well.

I still think Gibson´s guitars are overpriced compared to the other guitars available on the market.

overpriced? you got that right...

it´s the gibson brand name- that´s the main cause of exorbitant price tags. eg: LP Custom lists for $5K+... utter nonsense... i´ve been reading good things about the GUILD Bluesbird. it´s an LP-shaped guitar & touted to sound killer...

speaking of the slim taper neck- i´ve been thinking of investing in another LP, most likely the LP Classic, but the last time it happened, i ended up with a PRS...

anyway, guitar prices are shooting up in general. just yesterday, i checked the price of an American Series tele- lists for $1,600. years ago, i got mine for $998... pretty soon LPs will list for $10K!! that´s the down-payment for my house!!

What´s up?

I still remember I got my LP Studio from Sweelee for about SGD 1200 couple of years back now they are selling it for about twice the price...

I got my ´91 ebony Gibson LP Studio in 1992 for only $900! Still remember I asked my Dad for a loan, I only Sec 3 back then.

And I got my ´80 Gibson SG for only $500 second hand with OHSC in 1998.

Now the price has escalated so much...

Hi everyone!!

Anyone knows of any Epiphone Les Pauls with thick-necks? Or any other recommendation for Les Paul tone/shape and thick neck??

Thanks !

i´m on a low-budget... aiming around $600 or so...

Hey guys, I just bought the Tremonti SE and IMHO, it´s a really good guitar. Good sustain, amazing clarity thru a lousy amp. This is my first elec guit, I´m very pleased with it. Just what I need..

Bought it for SGD$850 at Davis. Comes with the Codura Bag which has more padding than a Kevlar Vest.. Hehe..

Now I´m eyeing on the Tremonti Pickup and Bass. Cuz I mostly play Creed, Lifehouse.. Love the crunch.. Hehe..

LP Goldtop

Hey buddy,
Guess what. You know how the Les Paul Standards cost about 700 bucks? (Round about). I know where you can get that Goldtop you were thinking about for 600. If you go to Parklane, level 2 or 3, theres a shop called Guitar Gallery (not sure if its still there) but next to it theres another shop. Inside it there are Epiphones and Squiers, including that Goldtop. I think they sell the Standard for just about the same price, but I'd go with the Goldtop because P-90's have that nice single coil sound without the hum. It's really up to you if you prefer humbuckers.

If you want to get a Santana SE, they're pretty good but not exactly the Santana sound. You'd have to get a Santana II or III, which in my opinion look ugly, and are expensive. But anyway, if you want to get that, try not to get a brand new one in Singapore because the price isnt worth it. You can get it for about a hundred bucks less overseas anywhere....

Pretty much I think you'd be better off with the Goldtop, Standard or Tremonti SE. Btw Tremonti SE is awesome so I have nothing else to say.

Good point, except if you go onto the Guild website you will find that it's out of production :( Stopped like a year or two ago)

erm if im not wrong,
P-90s are not humcanceling...

P90's are single coils, hence non-hum cancelling. Btw, its quite fuuny to see such an old thread esp one I started 2 years ago. :smt002
