hey dudes! thx for reading this!

-anybody can recommend a boost pedal fer me? i want my distortion to have more crunch/gain. i got suggestions of using an eq instead. haha. any ideas?

-isit advisable to put a compressor/sustain pedal after ur drive pedals? if it is, wad is the best comp/sustain pedal you guys ever tried/heard?

-is there any diezel amp dealer in sg?

thx dudes!!:D

- Check out Boss SD-1, Ibanez TS7.

- I usually put my compressor before the drives. I don't hear any difference if I put it after.

The one that I'm using has a sustain knob. The sustain gets longer as you increase it. Take note that the noise will increase also so set it to a point the noise is acceptable.

- Check out the Danelectro Cool Cat Drive or Transparent Drive pedals for ur boosting needs. Cheap and good! I have the CC Drive and it's really versatile. Turn the gain to 3 O Clock and u'll get a great classic rock Marshall like sound, works well with humbuckers. Turn the gain to around 12 O Clock or less and use it to boost ur fav gain pedal.

Another one to recommend is a Modtone Dyno Drive, sounds good either on its own (I find it works best with single coils) or when boosted with another gain pedal.

- I usually put my Compressor before the drives. I wasn't a big fan of compressors until I tried the Goosonique Citrus pedal, highly recommended for giving ur overall sound some oomph :)

faizal_rocks: if im not wrong...modtone has a boost pedal too rite? which pedal do you prefer between the 2?
mus: ohhh. i see. thx bro. hahaha

wad abt equalisers?

Yup, Modtone has the pedal called Clean Boost. Basically, it just boosts ur overall sound and doesn't add gain at all. Kinda like a eq pedal to enhance the tone, make it sound huge. If u want more crunch and gain, get a overdrive pedal (the ones I mentioned earlier) to stack with ur dist pedal.

Gain?
Fulltone Fat Boost

For gain boosting a rule of thumb is to put it before your drives for that extra edge.

A clean boost can add some dirt too, if placed before the drive pedal.

But if you're looking to add more gain, another overdrive to stack with your existing dirt pedal is another alternative. Another plus with stacking is the mix-and-matching whereby you can get a variety of tones at your disposal. But of course if you want to go with a boost, it's entirely up to you too. Just don't make a mistake of getting a clean boost pedal.

Clean boost is more for when you want to add some volume and fullness (in some cases).

An equalizer enables you to sculpt your tone by cutting/boosting the select frequencies of your choice. It doesn't give you more gain.

Usually people have the compressors before the drive. It's just a guideline, you can experiment further. I have not tried many compressors, but among those that I have tried, outstanding ones include the Barber Tonepress, Goose's Citrus and the Keeley Comp. A compressors useful and value-adds tremendously if used correctly.

As far as I am aware, there are not any Diezel amp dealers in Singapore.

Just one word of advise, it's most important to make use of what you already have fully and creatively.
Sometimes we get carried away with adding more and more pedals just because our friends have one or someone told us it's good to have this and that.
Most of the time, less is more.

;)

faizal -rocks: ohh. okayhs. so do i put the drive to full or smth? recommend a nice boost setting? :)

the drive full or even at 0 is entirely up to you. If you have one drive pedal only the idea is to play around with it not to leave it in a fixed setting.

Play around with the pedal yourself find the nicest setting u can obtain. What one person may prefer may sound like shit to you.

An overdrive before another overdrive/distortion would be known as a pregain boost. When both pedals are activated the first drive adds more gain giving u heavier distortion.

If the overdrive is placed after distortion it would act as a volume boost. At this point when 2 are activated your level of gain would be similar but ur volume would increase.

Well for me, I usually leave my gain setting at 12 o clock or less when I use my LP and at 2 o clock when I use my Strat but really, like what the rest have said, u need to experiment..what I may like will sound terrible to u and vice versa. :)

advice on pedal placement..

Does the placement of pedals alter the tone a lot? If so, any rule of thumb to which pedals should come first? for example we have an eq, dist, OD, chorus, delay, gate, phaser and wah.

only got 1 pedal now, just need some tips/advice/useful links before i start compiling.. thanks a lot in advance guys... :p

Yes it does. Rule of big toe and heel is from the pickups, clean boost/EQ, a wah, your drives, then your modulations last in the chain. Usually the delay goes last, and you can play around with your modulations, e.g to chorus the tremolo, or to trem the chorus.

However rules are meant to be broken so there are no fixed hard and fast methods, but generally what sounds good and works best for your expensively collected equipment is to do it properly, e.g not putting your fuzz after a flange. But that could still sound cool, it all depends on you as a sound scaper and with whatever individual pedal.

phil: hey. thx man. really helped :D nice ending. love it. sometimes less is more. thx bro!

faizal_rocks: thx man! appreciate it.

thx softies! :-D
