need help for power supply

L3stat, let me know how the email to Voodoo Lab goes. Would be interested if we can order straight from them. Of course if it price is reasonable. Thanks.

... most pedalboards don't need OVERKILL OVERSPECCED OVERPRICED power supplies.

I'm reading this, but having a PP2+/Flatliner is more glam than powerstrip + 10 1-spots!

Need some opinions, if for some reason the PP2+ and Flatliner cost the same (equally expensive, or should I say PP2+ is relatively overpriced, or the Flatliner is relatively underpriced), which would you get?

Flatliner
+ higher power
+ AC output
+ switchable for 110/230V
+ more configurable battery sag
+ users with both claim Flatliner is more quiet
- not as flexible (1x12V output only)
- bulky and heavy (3cm taller and 1kg heavier than PP2+)
- no aux power outlet

PP2+
+ compact (can fit under PT)
+ more configurable (4x9/12V toggles)
+ aux power outlet
- lower power
- no AC output
- users with both claim it's noisier than PP2+

What do you guys think?

Edit: sorry, I'm just starting out, don't have too many pedals:
Screwdriver, Pink Flesh, Timmy, Strobo2, Blackstone, T-Rex Replica
Plan to get a RMC2/3, and maybe 3 or 4 more assorted pedals.

That would really depend on your size constraints man.

You decide.

Unless you really NEED the versatility of the Flatliner - then just go for the PP2+.

Since the pp2+ has all the isolation you need, along with some more bells & whistles

I think I'm probably going to be a bedroom guitarist, who might jam occasionally, with 1 or 2 pedals. Probably won't be bringing the pedalboard and power supply anywhere.

Actually I think the PP2+ is more versatile. You'll have 4 outputs that can be toggled between 9V and 12V, whereas the FL has only 1 12V output. But pity the low 100mA output on each of those 4.

Shred: You get any hum with your pedals using the PP2+? And what's your arrangement / configuration?

Before I used the PP2+, I was using a 1Spot adaptor? (2 actually, because the modulation efx were making swooshing noises when daisy chained to 1 x 1spot)

I didn't think I what noise I had back then was any more than normal?

But when I changed over to a PP2+, I was quite shocked that the quietness. Most noise in my rig comes from my dirt pedals so when I switched to the PP2+, I was eager to hear if there was any difference. And there was. I stack my drive pedals and with the PP2+, it was noticably quieter.

In addition, since the dirt pedals I play with are sensitive to the power supply (e.g. Fuzzes, transistor based drives...) I actually FELT a difference in terms of you know, the feel of the dirt boxes. Not a lot but it was there.

My rig is still not 100% quiet but I'm glad to know it is really much quieter than with the 1Spots.

I'm running about 14 pedals on the PP2+.

They are:
Strobostomp 2
Foxrox Octron
BYOC Script Phaser
Loopmaster Looper
Custom silicon fuzz face
Goosonique Muff-fuzz-distortion-thing
Skreddy Screwdriver
NOC3 Fuzz
Tonefactor Analogue Filter
Goosonique Citrus (opto comp)
Boss CE-2
2 x Ibanez EM-5 echomachines
Goosonique Boosty (transistor-based clean boost)

Basically most of the dirt pedals are linked to an isolated output... the efx used for cleans are daisy chained... modulation takes the higher output slots and preferrably isolated from the clean efx and dirt efx.

I agree on the 100mA per channel being sufficient for almost all analog pedals. However, powering that Replica would be high on the agenda. Kinda silly for me to buy a mucho expensive power supply, and still can't power my existing pedals.

Shred: thanks for taking the trouble to share that info! Was hoping you had a wah in the setup, because I'm seeing mixed results on PP2+'s wah-friendliness.

By the way, on the Nova, you tried using Y-cables? VL has a voltage (series) doubling cable, Burkey has a current (parallel) doubling cable. VL wrote back to me saying the parallel cable cannot be used with the PP2+ because all outputs are regulated. My electrical knowledge has gone down the drain, but isn't it voltage regulation when you say "regulated"? Current draw is pretty much dependent on the device being powered, isn't it?

I've use an RMC2 wah with no issues on the PP2+.

Currently, I have a Maxon flubber wah, modified by Goose... it has not AC tap... so its on batteries.

I certainly wouldn't mind running the Wah on the PP2+... but as it stands, I can't afford to let it be isolated, which in my experience, is ideal for wahs, since they tend to pick up noise from where ever very easily.

Cool thing abt the pp2+, its well shielded. Only if you place say a needle tuner (e.g. Tu12), directly next to the top of it, will the tuner pick up the electromagnetic (is that what it is?) waves... so no worries with wah... in fact I've experimented by turning on my highest gain settings, switching on the RMC2, and waving said pedal around the pp2+... only when very close will you get hum of any kind.

The Y-cable will link 2 isolated PP2+ outputs to give you... double the voltage. So 2 x 9v output = 18v then. With the same mA coming out... at least that is how i understand it, i got an incoming pedal that needs 18v.

I don't have a nova delay. :) Don't fancy all the bells & whistles... just straight forward delay in a simple setup will do. In which case I use the Ibanez EM-5 echomachines... they're discontinued. If you'd like to explore a great sounding digital delay to replace your Replica, you should check it out. PM me for sound clips.

My 2 cts..

I have a FL and i am powering DMM (24v) and Replica (18v), 1 Chorus, 4 ODs/Distortion/Fuzz, 1 Strobo, 1 wah. No noise.....Best of all, service from the burley guys are first class..

downside is weight and real estate.

More choices:

BBE Supa Charger

Sounds darn stupid, but seems to deliver the goods.

Did a bit of reading, BBE looks like a reverse engineering company. Anyway, has no battery sag, no aux power outlet, but has a weird 16V setting.

Anyone selling the BBE in Singapore? Looks like the answer to my powers supply needs... :)

It struck me today... I could get another PP2+ and link it up to the AC outlet of my 1st PP2+... wow... thats 16 isolated outputs... talk abt isolation...
