Need Help - COMPUTER CRASHED!

Hi guys!

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum but I need help and fast! My computer crashed yesterday - what a way to start the new year right?

It's a Compaq computer and I called COMPAQ up. They told me that I could do a system restore, which I know how, but I WILL lose all my data. They told me that there might be some 3rd party people out there that could help me to retreive my data before I do the system restore... could anybody give me some contacts/lobangs on who I should approach?

I'm currently freelancing and can't afford to pay high prices and Compaq quoted me $100 per hour - sheesh! Anyway, thanks for your help and Happy New Year guys!

I dun think you HDD crashed, the OS has crashed instead.

if you do system restore using the Compag system CDs,
it will wipe out your data and run a full reinstallation of the OS.

what you need to do is to get another HDD,
install it as the boot up HDD and plug your
OS crashed HDD as slave. This way you copy all your
files to the master or retrieve your data.

My personal advice:
Always backup your data !!!

Sorry to hear about your Compaq. But I have heard too many disappointments from friends with Compaq procured in corporate.
