1]Have i choosen the right mixer for home recording?
Ans - Yep its fine

2]What is the suitable DAW software that i must use?(i want to record track by track EG:Rhytm guitar/lead guitar/Drums/Bass and Vocal.
Ans- Try Audacity - its a free download. Otherwise get a free copy of Cubase LE if possible.

3]How many Watt Power Amp shall i use?(rack mounted)
Ans- No need if you are just doing simple recording and playback.

4]Is getting a 2channel EQ nessasary?(Behringer ultragraph)
Ans- Not really necessary.

5]Is it better to have a power amp or powered monitors. In that case, what powered refference monitors is good?
Ans- get a good set of powered monitors and hook them to your mixer. Route your soundcard's output through the mixer to the monitors.

1. For home recording, getting a good interface is better than getting a mixer with usb interface. http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/computer-audio/audio_interfaces/ But since you already gotten the mixer, just use it first.

2. There is a software list at http://soft.com.sg/forum/gear-computer-sw/3937-music-production-software-list-read-first-post.html

3. No need amp since you already have BEHRINGER V-AMP PRO

4. No need EQ, you can do it in the software

5. You basically need something to help you hear what is recorded. Depends on your budget and room size, you can choose from http://www.sweetwater.com/c405--Active_Monitors

You can read up on the difference between Active and Passive monitors here -> http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/studio/studio-monitors/buying-guide.php#1

You will need microphones if you want to record your drumset. http://www.sweetwater.com/c982--Drum_Mic_Bundles

Vocal microphone http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/studio/studio-microphones/buying-guide.php#1

You will need headphones too.

Thanks guys for your help and advise, that really help and widen up my views and gave me better clearity.

By the way as administrator said..For home recording, getting a good interface is better than getting a mixer with usb interface, why are ther still a mixerboard in most of the home studios, and they also have an interface?Im quite confuse sometimes.
Since i've got a mixer, can i at the same time get an interface...but i want to use my mixer to control the volume,eq etc etc?Can i?

Bout the amp,i can use my V-AMP PRO to act as a powered amp?Hows the connection?( do anyone out there have a SOUND ENGINEERING BOOK FOR DUMMIES):mrgreen:;)

BUt sometimes guys,to have plenty of equip, especially stack up on your 10U or 8U rack..its kinda cool and make your room more professional ya..

The mixer is for people who likes to touch physical fader. Does not add much to the recording. Nowadays, we do most of the mixing inside the software so the physical fader is not much of a use.

Most software DAW will have EQ, Dynamic, Efx and volume control. No need to route back to your USB mixer for processing.

In case you have not checked the manual, page 11 will tell you how you can connect the V-Amp for recording.

More gears = less space to sleep! ha...haa...

Hi,
1] I think the mixer will be useful when you want to record bass and vocal at the same time
2] DAW software - I agree with the recommendation of Audacity
3] Power Amp - I agree not needed
4] EQ - I agree you can do it in software - especially if on budget, you can get a better software EQ than a hardware one
5] monitors - you may want to use headphones as an alternative for monitoring, especially to avoid sound bleeding - I like the AKGs which I bought from Hung Bros in Sim Lim

Questions

(a) What mics are you using? Very important to get the input right from the start, and it depends very much on the individual. My vocalist used a Rode condenser and got good results, then used a less expensive Shure SM-58 dynamic and got even better sound :)

(b) Are you taking care of the acoustics in the room to reduce echo and messing up of frequency response? What works for me are heavy curtains, rugs (from Ikea), open bookcase with books (breaks up the reflections), and cork notice boards hung behind the monitor speakers.

All the best with the studio

Hi guys..Ben,currently i have Shure SM58,but im thinking of buying AKG condenser with shockmount or Behringer condenser also with shockmount.2 choices.

Bout my room treatment, ive put aside $$$ for acoustic foams.Few of my frens also said as u said using cockboard.a good sound absorbtion. As all of u know, acoustic foam is very vry xpensive.

Hey administrator,i agree with u..more gears, less place to sleep.I dont wanna end up sleeping on my gears..hehehe..

Hey guys,Pls check out this website,www.argosyconsole.com copy ideas from them..haha!

if ur working on a budget, then ur setup is pretty much complete i reckon. unless ur budget is a high one =P i myself have stopped buying gear because of my budget constraints and am starting to lay money aside for acoustic treatment instead :)
