Need Advice on Electric Guitars

I'm totally new about electric guitars, having only played acoustic ones.
I'm thinking of buying a Squier Strat at year end. Hope you guys can ans some of my questions.
1) Where can you buy electric guitars in singapore? My friends all bought theirs from some place called Swee Lee at bras basah. Is it the best place to buy?
2) I've heard that Swee Lee has this year end sale. When is it? Is there an exact date? because i heard that sometimes the have sales of 50% off or something.
3) Are squier guitars good? I read some reviews on them and some say that they dont have the quality of Fenders, and its like a Strat Copy or something.

1)-Peninsular shopping mall next to Funan IT Mall, look round the basement area (Davis/Guitar77,Guitar-Connection,etc), full of guitar shops, some on the upper levels too.
-Bras Basah Complex. Look around Swee Lee level, there are a few shops like Ranking -- -Sports&Music and Blackwood, etc.
-Parklane Shopping Mall @ Selegie road.A number of shops like Sinamex, Novetly Music, City Music@Peace Centre)
-Sweelee@ Katong/Sims Drive
-Yamaha outlets
-Yes and No, Swee Lee is not always the best place to buy, depending on your needs and what you want.

2)Its true, but nobody knows really.... It comes out in the Classified Ads the day before or on the day itself or it is leaked out here in SOFT.

3)You pay what you get for. Its cheaper than a Fender Strat, so it doesnt have quality parts. If you want a comparison, take Lexus and Toyota. Fender is Lexus.....Squier is Toyota. Fenders are made in Mexico/Japan/USA while squiers are made in Indonesia/China/Korea. Furthermore, you can get other strat copies like the Yamaha Pacifica 112 @ a cheaper price with better sound quality(to some)

Whats the price of a Fender strat? Should i save up for a Fender Strat, or just buy a reasonable guitar? Because i dont want to be buying one, and looking for a better one too soon. I have a friend who bought a Fender telecaster for only 450$ at Swee Lee, so maybe i can get one of those too.

hmm i thought i saw one for abt $900 at swee lee.should be a cij(crafted in japan) model.will go take a look again if i got the time.
well,i wont say that squier is bad.Its all about the feel of the guitar and whether you feel comfortable playing it

Made in Mexico Fender strat cost around $700-$800+. To add on, if u gonna get cheap guitars like Squier, some are of good quality, some may have defects, so check before you buy.

However u can get other better guitars with a little lesser money. For instance, maybe a Yamaha, AXL, stagg, Cort etc...

If you want a stratocaster, I REALLY recommend checking out Swing or Smash guitars at Standard Value.

They are high quality guitars at good medium range prices. Swing would be the better buy, Smash if you're on a budget.

My advice is get a cheaper guitar (like a squier) and mod it a little e.g by changing pickups etc. But thats just IMHO. Cuz i love cheap guitars

Just buy a cheaper guitar first and live with it until you can/willing to afford the better ones. Upgrading a cheaper guitar will give u a bad loss when you want to sell the guitar


I think a squier california series is a good bet. nvr tried smash before tho. Looks good also.

Well ok thanks for the advice, but I think I'll still stick to either a fender or a squier; I just read that squiers don't count as strat copies, so yeah. My budget is around 500$ so I'll have to wait for a really big sale to get a fender.

I actually played some Squiers that I liked, so I guess I'll be one of the few here to be pro-Squier. Do try some of them out, but I advise you to check it thoroughly because as with most lower-priced guitars, the quality control can be quite inconsistent from guitar to guitar.

Of course, if a sale comes and you can afford the Fender, go for it.

its located at excelsior hotel basement. If you know where peninsula is ( next to funan mall ) then just enter from penin. reason being there are many many guitar shops there guitar connection being one of them. Do check out davis and music theme guitar 77 etc etc all are around the same area
