Hi all,

I need some advice. I bought a used fender 70's reissue strat during the weekend and i was told by the shop that the pups were texas specials. When i brought the guitar home, i took off the pickguard and tried to see if there's any indication that these were the texas specials. I could not spot anything to tell that they were texas specials.

Is there any idication that the pups are texas specials? how do i tell?

Please advice.
Thx

Cheers!

Yeah, there should be a custom shop sticker on the back of the pickups. but then again, those are just stickers that can be removed easily. Mine do not have the stickers on them. Just a black padded back.

Any sure way of knowing that they are texas specials indeed?

re:

not a good way to check but might ease your worries a little. Open up the cover try to take a peek at the wire. custom shop texas specials should be wound with formvar-coated wire which is bright orange (like copper)

If its any other color e.g. pink - poly-coated. its probably not custom shop stuff.

btw is your reissue a MIJ or MIA? If im not wrong, the MIJ models are also fitted with a set of pickups called Texas specials BUT they are not the custom shop texas specials.

i dont remember the 70s reissue coming stock with texas pickups. if you check the wiring diagram, you'll just be confirming that. no offence intended dave c.

Mines a CIJ.

Well, I'll probably bring my guitar down to my tech during the weekends to see what he makes of it. I sure hope that they are indeed texas specials or i would be one angry customer.

hehe

Thx for the feedback guys!
Appreciate it!

as pointed out by one of the member above, if it's MIJ, it just marketed as Texas Special (which imo, nothing special :D), not a Custom Shop Texas Special. So no need to be angry customer :D

As long as it sounds good, who cares if it's Texas Special or Hougang Special? :D

if the shop owner told you it was usa texas special to entice you to buy...hes not wrong to say that but shrewd way of marketing though. it is texas specials (USA) as stated in the fender jap catalog..
