Name that Chord thread

nice voicing....

initial thoughts go towards F#11 voicing...but the choice of the bass note and the closely placed b9 interval make me lean towards G#m9.....

maybe strumming the high E before landing on the F# would indicate a stronger F#11

I don't know the exact answer to this. I'm leaning on Ab/F#maj11 - the reason for this is the presence of two F#s in the chord. The Ab bass note adds a certain tension, but not convincing enough for me to call it the Abm9.

Tried playing the chord, the inherent beauty of the A# B dissonance with the interval of the 11th made it quite the chord.

B|--21--|

A|--15--|

One plate of chicken rice vegetable set with HSC barley on me if you get the answer right.

Looks like I need to hit the gym for a couple months before I can play that chord. I'll keep you posted.

is this meant to be answered or it's just a joke?
teach me how to press fret 2 with fret 21, while fret 3,10 and 15 is depressed in between.

Anyway, the notes would have been
root G, with A C G#, (which sounds very clashy with G, G# and A even though they are at different octaves).

i cannot name it yet. still finding a name for it.

alright i'll play...Amaj7(#9)/G...im not a chicken rice person...cheese prata will do nicely

the beauty of the enharmonic:)...gives us guitarists a lot to think about....interesting view on the F#maj11/Ab(assuming thats the order u meant)....in the right possible context...I could definitely hear a maj11...and the abscence of the 7 allows for that possibility...but first thoughts for me would go to hearing an F#11....having a b9 and a b5 interval in the soprano voice would need some serious context for me...

I think the right chord nomenclature would be F# add11/G#

again...chords are all about the context they are used in.....

using this chord in a song...the easiest context i can think of is a Bmaj7 with a G# in the bass.....especially since the strongest interval is B A# interval...

Another one !!

Lets not kill this thread with childish banter.

I'm so digging the F#maj11/Ab. Is it the maj11 or the added upper register root or the Ab that makes it schweeet? Its up to the listener aye?

Easy one for guitar pop fans.

well the strongest interval that catches the ear is Bb B interval on the G and B strings....this is the b9 interval and whats more...its closely placed...

as to whether the chord is F#maj11/Ab or F#11/Ab...it depends on context but to hear the chord...on the high string play the 1st fret or open E respectively...

the bottom 4 notes of the chord you mentioned is a very popular transition chord...and its cyclic in nature just like the diminished chord;)..that should make for easier guessing....

the additional notes on the B and E string make it far more complicated....

Asus2#5 ?? :P

It's a Aadd9#5?

I don't know the exact name myself. I just call it the "#5 version of a super ringing A". Snappier sounding I feel~

we have a winner....

although A2 is generally accepted....Aadd9 is the more commonly accepted name..especially when the B is in a higher octave....with the F in the picture...its Aadd9#5 in my book.....
