My Experience at Cash Converter

aiya basically they are acting as a middle-man hence they've got to buy it at a lower price to earn profits. you can definitely fetch a higher price on ebay or soft because you are selling directly to the buyer.

for items with a huge 2nd hand market, like musical instruments (soft.com) or hardware (hardwarezone.com) or maybe lets say fishing (fishingkaki.com), better to just sell your stuff there. IMO cash converters is more for random stuff where people dont know where or how to sell those thing.

what would be interesting is bringing a say "Gibson Les Paul"
then later some one else bring a "no brand Les Paul "
and see if the offered $$ is the same

Just to side track..

Well, it just as bad here in soft but not saying all but some...cause most seller will want to fetch a good price and buyer wants to get a good price.....

sometimes I see a seller selling at about the same price what is in the shop....or maybe just slightly lower, in that case i might as well go direct to the shop...got more choices...

sometimes i notice buyer asking for riduculous pricing, like I have given 50% off and condition is mint, yet they want further discount...

To me I think 50% is reasonable...

Hi... to whomever that commented the above... Sorry if i may sound offensive but your comment a bit mindless leh... Don't you think selling your instruments in a forum like SOFT is far better off then Cash Convertor?? I know u mentioned not all but some in SOFT forum is just as bad... But how bad can it be compare to cash convertor??? CC like many guys mentioned is strictly business. Besides them being oblivious to what is valuable to u or to fellow musicians (In this case i am referring to music instruments)... they just want to buy over your items as cheap as possible so they can make something out of it. It is as though they are doing u a favor by buying it from u... Right?! Like someone said "Middle man". If u guys think CC have no idea what good stuff u hv then don't go there to sell your stuff... simple. Not fair to call them scam... I would rather call those guys that go CC to sell their instruments FOOLISH.

But in forums like SOFT, people that you sell ur instruments to are end users and they appreciate what you are selling and not like CC... "Ahh... this thing ah... $50... ai lai mai swak". Again i say... i dun find CC is doing anything wrong... its strictly business and that is why their signboard says "Cash Convertor" n NOT "Great 2nd Hand Musical Instrument Shop".

Bargaining is part and puzzle of buying n selling lar... U also cannot say pple tag their price close to what a brand new one would cost... Let's say u bought a Gibson Les Paul (I lummer not gitalist so not sure e model and all) for $5000 that u only use ones or twice and u find that u actually wanted something else and decides to sell it after 3 weeks or a month... Would u sell it at $2500??? I believe u will probably tag it between $4500 to $4700 which is close to a brand new price. U R thinking... I top up $300 or $500 i get brand new... But some guys here will be thinking... MAN!!! I can buy a Les Paul for $300 to $500 cheaper! Moreover, seller are free to sell their instruments at whatever price u see fit and its the buyer who decides want to buy or not... simple. Likewise, u can choose not to buy it if the price is not what u willing to pay...

heh its just business for cash converters i guess, we really should have no hard feelings lah.. those guys need to maintain their bottomline. Anyway it seems like the staff was just blur rather than dishonest..

How did this thread got dug up after almost exactly 5 years later? Lol :)

I would never go to CC to sell my guitars but I have to admit there's ton of good stuff there, not only musical stuff..that was back then...when CC was still at the old DBS Tampines building ..:p

I would like to try to bring my TGM over to CC and see how much they offer me. buwahahah. Scarly they offer me higher than the price i could fetch selling on soft. xD

i got my Boss Hyper Metal HM-3 for $40 at cash converters though.
and it's discontinued. =D

so CC not having a clue about the value of what they're selling can also be an advantage.

I'd buy stuff at Cash Converters, but I won't sell stuff to them. I know my guitars best so I think I'm in the right position to decide how much I wanna sell them at. Certainly not gonna let Cash Converters rip me off.

Yeah. Soft Buy/sell forums is definitely more recommended. I've had a number of good, smooth deals on Soft forums lately and nothing's gone wrong. Either way you'll have to exercise precaution and 'try before you buy', something an honest seller would allow, and Cash Converters probably wouldn't.

Errr.. I know I am bumping up a 2 years old topic.. but I just saw a Yamaha F340 acoustic guitar selling for $154 in CC Ang Mo Kio. Only missing the high E string, guitar dusty as hell but condition is pretty good. If only I don't already owned a F370, I would have gotten it. Played on a F340 in camp before; quite a decent guitar, especially for beginners.

The poor sucker who sold it.. probably got $30 or $40 for it, while he could have at least sold it for $120+. Must be some dumbass kid.

I love cash converter....sold a El Cheapo Yamaha guitar that I bought for $150 and a Vantage 15 amp that I bought for $30 for $450 at Cash Convertor Tampines.....no case no nothing :D

Most of the time, they probably just judge by the appearance alone. Saw a fancy looking GPR open face helmet going for a whooping $180! Only an idiot would buy that, GPR makes cheap helmets -_-

Its a malay guy..I don't think they know much abt guitar..they just look at the condition (Guitar practically brand new which I get on offer from Yamaha, Vantage Amp from a friends, still have original box and manual)

you're kidding right? who set the price?

Any of you guys tried to sell them cheap guitars at high price. haha
May try it on thursday just for fun. See how much he offer for my $300 les paul copy. Looks like expensive lespaul. haha
